Yet another post about 1 death per map but I swear this one is important
I'll be brief
For people with choppy connection (Poland like myself, parts of Belgium like my friend, I'm sure there are plenty of examples), PoE 1 softcore was playable because on disconnect, it didn't matter if you died or not, sure you lost some xp, maybe some loot (I lost 9 waves of Ultimatum loot to dc just today) but fundamentally, a dc felt about as shitty as a death to dc unless you were pushing 100. In PoE2 I'm worried it will just be very demotivating to lose entire maps because the disconnect wasn't detected early enough and the damage or even extra hits from monsters went through. I'm not saying it's a bad system, I just hope there is focus on disconnect detection and that issues/bugs tied to connection will be given higher priority. I want to do my very best during the beta to hunt as many of the connection issues as possible. Last bumped on Nov 27, 2024, 1:11:30 AM

" Agreed, though you could have added this to my thread and added visibility to the whole issue not a part of it. Free world so your choice. |

Ye that's a good idea, I just wanted visibility for something that is not fundamentally a balance problem or evaluating the idea on it's gameplay viability. No harm in pasting it over to your thread tho o7

Get a logout macro like all the "pro players" will
|

You can't logout if your game is not responding :)

If your connection is so poor that you cant go a single map without disconnecting, or having connection issues, its something you have to fix on your end.
If you can't or are incapable, that's just the reality of a situation, specific to you, you will have to accept and work with. Games cant change because of someones hardware problems :\ Best case scenario is to wait until you actually play the game though before deciding if things need to be changed. For now we have really no idea how good the disconnection/pause feature is for POE2 as you cannot just logout and save yourself anymore or alt+f4. Actually for people with stable connection: the way you play PoE on choppy internet is you play softcore, build like hardcore and on network not responding, hold down your main skill and hope either a) it registers and kills monsters next to you before dc b) you dc before you die
oh and playing a cc build helps :D |

" I can go all day without a single disconnect then dc and use 3 more portals because the area fails to load. I vividly remember one day when farming lab for a challenge, I lost 1/3 runs due to disconnect. Connection issues can be down to your local ISP as much as down to my setup. If you havent lived in an area with a choppy internet, you simply don't have a frame of reference. I'm not talking about hardware problems, I'm talking about network problems. EDIT: I think you also fundamentally misunderstood me, I'm not saying "GGG fix game unplayable because of my problem" I'm saying "PoE1 was playable DESPITE my problems and I'm worried PoE2 might not be". " i'm in the same boat man, and i hope this 1 portal 'difficulty' level is just a gimmick to control the growth of the game and it will be removed later |

" You are framing a very long stretched argument that hardcore players have to have pristine internet to play or else they have to play softcore. This is not true in the slightest, even for the best player, Ben, who can have lag spikes and crash just like anyone else, and still ends up on top. You should load up a stream sometime, honestly for anyone, and lag happens to them all. This whole "need a good internet/connection to play hardcore or not" argument has no weight behind it. " I mean I get that, I have random disconnects in this game sometimes and thats just something you have to accept. 0 times have I lost or died to anything from it. Bout the only thing I lost was a portal, or sometimes the reset/rewind where it just closes your map like you never opened it but never died. I dont think every single time you disconnect you will be in this crucial life or death situation like you frame though. And many systems have changed in this regard for POE2. Again, best wait to play and see how these systems are before suggesting changes to something. We have a long way to EA and even longer to mapping in EA. Mash the clean
