POE2 Character Names?
My entire list of names I've been using since Ultima Online were taken.
After trying every other name I would possibly be happy with, I got frustrated and randomly hit 5-7 letters, don't remember what it was, but it was taken. |

I agree that this needs to be changed. The only excuse I have really seen so far to keep it is "reputation". If that is really a worry then make your account name clearly visible at all times with a simple UI setting change. For people that don't care about seeing duplicate names, like me, my screen might be full of 30 people with characters named "John". If I go to settings and check the box to see all global names then my screen would instead show "AccountName1:John", "AccountName2:John" and so on. Seems like a super simple thing in 2024.

This needs to be addressed asap. Every name is taken already. At the very least let us use one space so we can have family names that would fix the issue and its a simple thing to add..

" That's actually a pretty good solution, I would welcome this. |

I'm glad this topic got more attention, hopefully they fix it before launch.

I'm going to chime in with my thoughts as an old school RPG player (Telarena anyone?)
Having the ability to name your character your personal choice is not about trading or min maxing, or even being recognized. It's about giving birth to a digital version of a fantasy you want to live out. The abilities and mythos surrounding the character you make can add to the enjoyment, starting at the character select screen. It's ok to have a name for your ranger that makes you feel whatever a ranger should feel like to you. One thing many can agree on...it's your connection to your characters that makes the game something you come home from work to play (after seeing to the family first, of course). For those who's only connection to a character is simply the hours put in or the items hoarded so they can trade for more items to hoard...well, you're just not the type to get it, and you shouldn't belittle the desired experience of others. One of the oldest sayings in a game (dating back to the monthly fee MMORPG) is: "It's your time, your dime." Just show a little respect for that, either in writing or silently. |

I’m glad this is still being talked about. I was lucky to grab a few names I wanted on day one of EA but naming a character now is an awful experience.
Imagine a year from now when the game officially launches. Hundreds of thousands of people will have their first experience in PoE 2 and their initial impression of the game will be having to name their character some unwanted random shit because everything they wanted to name their character is already taken. Nothing shatters immersion like being forced to login on “Bootstrapperlolz” for the first time. |

unique char names are essential. moments with char names can be instilled in the player's mind for years, and the memories linked to the name can last a lifetime.

Bad systems like this should have been left in the previous century.

Bump. This needs to be addressed.
