Hard crashing PC locks up
" As is software does not work like that in theory or practice. Both in USA and EU there are laws that specify unreasonable risks, which crashes due to software actually count as. "As is" does not cover faulty software that goes beyond typical expectations for software defects and cause possible hardware damage. You would find that courts may find that such risks exceed the reasonable scope. " What you suggested, "chkdsk /f" is for fixing logical file system errors on the drive. It has no chance of actually catching a hardware error. It will either correct the file system inconsistency temporarily (but will cause further problems down in the line) or fail entirely. And best case here is it failing entirely. What the topic was: Checking for Hardware Damages, Hardware related problems. What you should have suggested but did not: "chkdsk /r" which includes all the functionality of /f but goes further by checking for bad sectors on the drive. For hardware issues however, it is 2025 and most people are using SSDs, hence you should have mentioned SMART software instead. The risks of repeated use of chkdsk is known and that is why it is not recommended to use this function repeatedly. Using it once in a while is not the case in this thread where crashes occur frequently during a single day's play session. Please stop cluttering this thread any further and stop harassing people by your half baked knowledge about issues. Please stop telling people to "Go and get info how user mode programs interact with the hardware." when you don't even understand the difference between simple chkdsk commands. Enough is enough. Go away. I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1. I apologize for any unanswered messages.

" Nobody talked about "hardware error" (fake information from you) but about losing the file system data, like $MFT writes during the lock (cached writes for examples). Nothing less, nothing more. Feel free e-mail to Microsoft so they will change the entire standard procedure in case of unexpected power loss. /r tries to detect bad sectors, so this is NOT the case. Stop spamming and trolling. If you don't have anything helpful like dxdiag report, or at least something that can help to mitigate the consequences, leave the thread. It's obvious that some part of the code for POE 2 client is causing the issue, no matter if some are trying to ping this on Windows. The issue is getting alot worse today after the patch, while no updates were done to Windows.
If this is as simple as 24H2 issue... then GGG should have no problem troubleshooting it by simply testing it themselves on this update. Not hard to install the Windows update on a few computers for them and start working on troubleshooting. This ONLY happens on loading screens. Game does NOT hang when you are past that. I tested it few times tonight and by using single core it worked fine on loading screens and no problem when I switched to multicore after Loading. Maybe a temporary fix should be made by disabling multithreading on load?

" Yeah, I Highly doubt it is a windows specific issue Been playing on Linux, since the last patch game may as well be Unplayable. Same symptoms as described. System lock up, requires hard reset. Usually happens in a menu, but has happend during gameplay For me at least, this only started after the last patch |

Potential fix
Couldnt get past char selection the past few days.. crash whenever I tried to load in.. Noticed in windows logger that GameInput Service failed to start at the exact time I was crashing in loading screen (happened multiple times) I tried repairing and resetting this service in settings: windows settings -> apps -> installed apps -> Gaming Services Not a single crash ever since. coincidence? idk - I will test it out again tomorrow. win 24H2 RTX 3070 Ryzen 7 3700X |

" If there's a way to do that then that would be great. If not it would be good if they could allow us to hotkey the option until they get a fix. Every now and then I forget to disable multithreading before zoning and it's a gamble as to whether or not it'll load or crash... Hotkey would still have that issue mind but I'd get in to the habit of doing so much easier. |

" I've been playing since release and tonight was the first time I crashed during the character load screen. Both times were after I'd hard crashed with multithreading on. Both times I was able to wait it out and start the game again getting back into the game unlike when it crashes whilst zoning (Full PC lock). Likely a remnant of the previous crash with slightly different sympoms. I've not disabled any CPU coores etc. |
|
" Just to clarify, my crashes has been both in char selection and whilst zoning. |
|
" It still crashes regardless, sadly. |
