Hard crashing PC locks up

My workaround for my own system is:

1. Raised Power Limits on my CPU. I was previously using a big undervolt with all my other games, but this game causes power-shortages with it. So I boosted my CPU's power limits closer to stock - JUST when running this game. CPU runs warmer, but still stays under 75C, so no big deal. No more KernelPower BSODs.

2. Discovered and removed a Windows Bug that was causing crashes both with and without POE2. (Gameinput Service errors) This actually helped my whole system. You can check to see if you have the error too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaYvj2gRnUI&ab_channel=TECHEXTRANET This was a rare bug that people who haven't done a full Windows Reinstall in a long time might have. But it was definitely screwing up my system.

3. I use a modified version of PoEuncrasher that parks ALL my non-primary cores during load scenarios (prevents SMT threading on my AMD CPU and only uses primary core processing). It runs affinity 5554 during loads and whenever it sees a [warn] or [crit] pop up in the client.txt log. It seems to work best for my config. Since single-core Multithreading seems to be a possible issue with POE2, both with Intel and AMD CPUs, I simply deny it access to the SMT cores during loads.

4. Vulkan all the way. Direct X 11 and Direct X 12 are a mess. I see D3D texture errors in the POE2 client log constantly with those APIs. That's a sperate issues GGG needs to fix. Vulkan doesn't give me any errors.

So far, so good. Still, we shouldn't have to choke our CPUs to run a single game in 2024/2025. GGG need to fix that, not us.
Windows 11 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD

For anyone still having this issue, I started using that PoEUncrasher on github. Haven't had an issue with pc crashing / having to hard shut down pc since. Still get the odd crash to desktop mode game, but no loading screen lock ups.

uncrusher works perfectly...thank you

But again, why should someone be taking this risk? Would you expect when launching a game that it might brick your hardware?

They accept that risk when they bought hardware based on the modern standards. You completely ignore that the game doesn't have access to the hardware directly and it runs in isolated low privilege environment. The entire system designed to protect stability and security from the malware and glitchy applications.

Hardware abstraction layer, ring 3 completely separated from ring 0, system kernel with Patch Guard, shadow tables, process security tokens, preemtive multitasking based on System Timer interrupts, ring 0 memory leakage detection, argument checking when ring 3 program needs to call something from ring 0. And much more, like disabled CPU commands like CLI / STI, etc. So many efforts the industry made all over these years.

Everything failed!

Because of what? Because of some random, glitchy, isolated application with almost no rights to do anything on your system. Don't you see the problem? And it's not about "using system API in unusual way". The entire API built around the fact that some ring 3 program may use it incorrectly (we don't know exactly what's going on) to protect the system stability and security. This is the core part of your OS and you completely ignore that fact.

For some reason you don't blame the guys who wrote crappy code for the ring 0, turning your system into a house of cards, but you do find someone to blame in this chain of events.

It's like blaming the 5.56x45 bullet that penetrated your body chest and not the manufacturer for making shitty untested plates. You blame the Sun for burning your skin, not the sunscreen cream you bought from the chinese seller.

Vulnerability is one part of the equation, the more important part is the exploiter. And sometimes "vulnerability" is due to the alternative being more inconvenient for a good-faith user. Think it like this: You can simply not put windows when building a house, this way you can avoid burglars coming in. There is no longer a "windows vulnerability" in this case. But not having a window in your home is not really a desirable outcome for the regular people so we make do with creating closable windows, putting window guards etc... At this point you are reasonably protected and if a burglar were to weld open those irons well... That's on them.

PoE2 is a bit different.

In this analogy PoE2 is your mate's 5 year old kid who is running in your house, breaking things. You really want to spend time with the kiddo because you were abroad while he was growing up so you only had some videos and pictures but at one point the damages rack up and you wonder if he needs professional help. When you ask your mate, his wife evasively mumbles something about conduct disorder but assures you that this only seems to happen in homes with people in it.

At this point your windows being open is not related to the damages you have incurred.

Also when you get shot you do not blame the bullet, your equipment, or your skills, instead you blame the shooter. It was the shooter that was the problem.

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.
Can confirm this issue as well...Feel like an AMD issue based on these posts and the fact that my Steam Deck does not encounter this had crash.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor
GPU - Nidia RTX 4090

While didn't play a ton on release, I don't recall the crash. It really seems like it started after the latest POE2 patch.
The same problem here, when I change maps my PC freezes on the loading screen, having to reset the PC.

OS: Win11 - 24H2
CPU: Ryzen5 5600G
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 4060 Ti
Just wanted to add that with my setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X
GPU: Nvidia 4070 SUPER
I got the problem as soon as I updated to Windows 11 24H2.
Did a rollback and the problem vanished.

p.s. from what I have read it seems to be a combo of AMD processor and Windows 11 24H2. But its just a guess.
I had a lot of crashes and hard freezes in loading screens myself and tried a lot of different things and nothing helped.

Ryzen 7 9800x3D
RTX 3080Ti

The last thing I wanted to try was reinstalling Windows 11 and not install Update 24H2, which has known problems with some games.
I installed Windows 10 and manually upgraded to Windows 11 up to 23H2 and had zero crashes and freezes in loading screens since. Played like 15 hours since reinstalling. Usually I had a freeze every 5-10 loading screens.

Don't know if this helps for everybody, but for some, who have tried everything else and are desperate for a solution, this may be it.

My god, I was literally 10 days away from this crap game, came back hoping something was fixed....

ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT NOTHING HAS CHANGED??

GGG you are a disgusting company and you will NEVER get 1 cent from me again...

FIX YOUR GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I switched back to Diablo 4. You know why? Because at least their game works. Probably not touching PoE2 anytime soon because that performance mess is just embarrassing.

I don’t do workarounds for games I buy—ever. That’s the bare minimum: if I pay for a game, it should at least be functional and playable, especially when the problem is already well-known.

This is the biggest L for GGG, hands down. It’s clear they don’t care about their community if they let stuff like this slide. Why should we have to jump through hoops to enjoy their game? Get it together, GGG.
Have tried every solution and nothing still keeps crashing. Prob going to stop playing until this is fixed, hoping it gets fixed. Still surprised they haven't at least made a more recent post regarding any progress they have made into fixing or identifying the issue.
