Hard crashing PC locks up

It amuses me how some people say that we should be patient because GGG is taking a break over the holidays. How about releasing your paid early access game AFTER the holidays instead so that you can work on the inevitable bugs and provide feedback to your community? Anyhow, that's how I would do it 🤷‍♂️

How about making sure the game is working before changing parts inside the game (nerf/buff), and how about making sure that known problems from poe1 wont happen again? I mean dont have to be a genius to make sure at least the game is working for everyone or state people with the following specs cannot play the game because despite us having the money and time we wont make it playable for them. At least then we would have not bought it or attempt playing it.
uninstalling last windows update - worked a bit but pc still crashes. Usually happens on the 100% cpu load spike ( when the cog wheels pause )

I'm bumping this since they have to be getting back to work in the next few days.
JUST WANTED TO LET YALL KNOW G FORCE WORKS PERFECTLY NO MORE CRASH'S i lost a whole pc due to this bs and have not been able to play for last 14 days now i had enough my friend told me about Gforce now and it works amazingly if ur like me and u really really wanna play the game its def worth the 20$ for the month to play poe2 rn till they get this fixed with our main pc's

Spend more money to play a broken game? No thanks. Already wasted $30

You let the game fry your PC, so you decided to pay a subscription to keep playing the game?
Windows 11 24H2 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD
Bump. I hope GGG doesn't lock this thread like the other one...

I was seeing this on a 7950x3d and also on a 9800x3d, setting affinity would sometimes resolve the issue, which makes me think that does not actually resolve anything.

What DID resolve it for me was setting the process priority to real time for PathOfExileSteam.exe. I also remove its affinity for CPU 0 and CPU 1 just in case so I don't have to reset my PC.

When using the 7950x3d I had the game pinned to CCD0 (3dvcache cores), and was often able to unlock the process by allowing the game to also use CCD1 (non-3dvcache cores) temporarily.

Given this, it seems like a multiprocessing/threading application issue to me. Maybe a race condition?

Damn, I spoke too soon. Three days without crashes using affinity and realtime priority and it just crashed while zoning :(

But again, why should someone be taking this risk? Would you expect when launching a game that it might brick your hardware?

They accept that risk when they bought hardware based on the modern standards. You completely ignore that the game doesn't have access to the hardware directly and it runs in isolated low privilege environment. The entire system designed to protect stability and security from the malware and glitchy applications.

Hardware abstraction layer, ring 3 completely separated from ring 0, system kernel with Patch Guard, shadow tables, process security tokens, preemtive multitasking based on System Timer interrupts, ring 0 memory leakage detection, argument checking when ring 3 program needs to call something from ring 0. And much more, like disabled CPU commands like CLI / STI, etc. So many efforts the industry made all over these years.

Everything failed!

Because of what? Because of some random, glitchy, isolated application with almost no rights to do anything on your system. Don't you see the problem? And it's not about "using system API in unusual way". The entire API built around the fact that some ring 3 program may use it incorrectly (we don't know exactly what's going on) to protect the system stability and security. This is the core part of your OS and you completely ignore that fact.

For some reason you don't blame the guys who wrote crappy code for the ring 0, turning your system into a house of cards, but you do find someone to blame in this chain of events.

It's like blaming the 5.56x45 bullet that penetrated your body chest and not the manufacturer for making shitty untested plates. You blame the Sun for burning your skin, not the sunscreen cream you bought from the chinese seller.

Vulnerability is one part of the equation, the more important part is the exploiter. And sometimes "vulnerability" is due to the alternative being more inconvenient for a good-faith user. Think it like this: You can simply not put windows when building a house, this way you can avoid burglars coming in. There is no longer a "windows vulnerability" in this case. But not having a window in your home is not really a desirable outcome for the regular people so we make do with creating closable windows, putting window guards etc... At this point you are reasonably protected and if a burglar were to weld open those irons well... That's on them.

PoE2 is a bit different.

In this analogy PoE2 is your mate's 5 year old kid who is running in your house, breaking things. You really want to spend time with the kiddo because you were abroad while he was growing up so you only had some videos and pictures but at one point the damages rack up and you wonder if he needs professional help. When you ask your mate, his wife evasively mumbles something about conduct disorder but assures you that this only seems to happen in homes with people in it.

At this point your windows being open is not related to the damages you have incurred.

Also when you get shot you do not blame the bullet, your equipment, or your skills, instead you blame the shooter. It was the shooter that was the problem.

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.

I answered in another topic. No reason to duplicate the answer.

Maybe a race condition?

Yes, it may be. It would be even worse if the race condition happened at kernel mode. I hope the shit will be fixed by the industry (Microsoft, driver developers, UEFI developers, CPU/GPU microcode developers, etc), because it's not only GGG's issue. Because without fixing the roots of the problem your system will be affected by that design flaw / vulerability allowing the attacker to hang your machine up just because he wants to do. Or it will happen again in the future, like some Cyberpunk 2077 users reported in the respective NVIDIA thread.
