POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Same here, 9800x3d, 4080, win 11 24H2.

It's kinda random, yesterday i was able to play few hours straight whitout freezing my PC, then suddenly got 2 freezes in like ONE hour. I will not try any "fix". GGG should do that rather than ppl. I understand that ppl want some temp fix but it doesnt solve the problem. I hope it will be fixed soon.
I have 3 pc's and luckily 2 of them work... My GF was able to play the first week, but then her pc (pc3) got a update and failed ever since.... Tried to help her with BES 99, 95, 90, 85% no luck, task manager affinity and priority, creating a script to clear cache before game launch. Absolutely no luck, not interested in downgrading os from 23h2 to 24h2 as it clearly works on pc1...


(pc1)5800x3d + 6950xt + 32gb ram+ 24h2 = runs perfectly fine
(pc2)3800x + 6750xt + 32gb ram + 23h2 = runs fine, tried 1 crash (not loading screen)
(pc3)i5-12400f + 3070 ti + 32gb ram + 24h2 = Runs fine fps wise, crashes after 1-3 map changes and freezes entire system.

If I had a computer where I could reproduce the bug, I would try making a proxy DLL that would serialize (only allow one at a time, through a mutex) specific Vulkan calls. It occurs during loading, when all threads are pushing data to the GPU simultaneously, so that narrows it down quite a bit.

But hey, if people have solved the problem by disallowing some CPU cores to PoE, then great! Has that solution worked for everyone?

It helps, but the game will still freeze. It just doesn't lock up the OS.

Right, okay... Is there a C/C++ programmer, who is currently experiencing the bug, who would like to waste a day to produce a DLL that gets around the bug?

Given that we know the bug doesn't occur when multithreading is disabled within PoE, then serializing all Vulkan calls will also solve the problem. But this is also way overkill.

The idea would be to create a proxy DLL that catches specific Vulkan calls and only allows one call at a time to go through (though a mutex, or a CRITICAL_SECTION in winapi speak). The bug occurs during loading, so the calls related to uploading/copying/mapping buffers are prime targets.

So vkCreateWin32SurfaceKHR() would get caught, where you grab the function pointers (GetModuleHandleA()/GetProcAddress()) for many Vulkan functions, including vkCreateWin32SurfaceKHR() itself, where the call is then forwarded.

It would be an iterative process to converge on the minimum set of Vulkan functions that must be caught and serialized, to prevent the issue from occurring while providing best performance.

Tedious, it would take about a day, and help a bunch of people. I can help with guidance and/or code but I can't reproduce the problem on any machine here, so I couldn't do much.

On my system this game consumes 4gb vram and 90% cpu in main menu while in the maps - 3gb vram and less cpu. Kinda joke. Perfomance is the same everywhere. My main menu and loading screen are stuttering so bad to 3-5 fps as well as in the maps. Everything was working fine until the last patch, had my 60 fps.
when fix unplayable. biggest bug ingame didn't fixed yet.
How come we have NO communication at all about this matter from the official teams? Like seriously? Are they not checking their forums? THere is 243 freaking pages about the matters, wake up!!

Yes, it's a Windows issue. There can be PoE bugs that would make the game freeze or stop responding. Oh, I'm sure there are quite a few of these, it's Early Access after all.

If you were simply misinformed then you can educate yourself by reading this I'm copy-pasting from my old reply:

That is quite a stretch, congratulations. You are basically saying that any power cut to a computer is damaging the hardware.

And it's not going to damage the software either, unless said software has also bugs (which is possible, this is Windows). File systems have journaling, and properly written software will update files in a manner that is safe if interrupted at any point by a power cut (write()/fsync()/rename()/fsync(), etc.).

I'm not going to respond to every statement, but there's no need to be condescending in your peculiar crusade to claim that GGG is damaging people's hardware (programmer for the past 20 years here, plenty of CUDA/Vulkan, some contributions to the Linux kernel and system libraries, etc.).

It does. This is literally one of the very first things you learn in electrical and computer engineering. Being a programmer does not make you an engineer, so I don't know why you have added that info there as if it would mean something.

If you are interested you can educate yourself by using the spoilered portion of the previous post as a starter.

If there was a software that protected hardware fully against electrical damages (impossible due to software being reliant on hardware having the power to sustain its processes but let us just assume that) then the entire sector would have made it so that your warranty would be void when you did not use that software (because mitigation of damages is on customer's side).

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.
I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1.
What to do:
1)Write a short review about the hard crashes in notepad.
2)Copy and paste it to steam reviews, put up a negative review.
3)Copy and paste it to steam discussions, put it up there.

they are on vacation, but that doesnt mean this silence is ok...i posted this before and ill keep doing it...GUYS JUST GO TO STEAM AND DOWNVOTE THE GAME, GIVE THEM A HONEST REVIEW ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING...COMPANIES ONLY ACT ON EMERGENCY WHEN THEY LOSE MONEY...ITS SIMPLE.
I have not played the game for more than a week, such freezes can break the computer,
nothing but turning off the multi-stream does not help, but without it it is impossible to play

win 11 24h2 (and my friends have the same update, and none of them have such hard freezes)

after the developers announce that they will leave for the weekend after the balanced patches, it becomes sad
