POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Issue still exists, I believe that this is related to windows 24h2 update.
TL;DR - Disable the "Optimizations for windowed games" feature.

AMD 7800X3D user here with a possible fix, or at least it is working for me, that you can try. I don't know if Intel CPUs are having the same crashing issues, so whether this will work for you or not I do not know.

Like others, I am sure many of you play the game in Windowed Borderless mode because you use a trade overlay, which requires you to play in this windowed mode, or you play this way because I believe it is the game's default setting. I am not sure if playing in fullscreen has the same crashing issues or not. I am just speaking about this based on my way of playing.

Like others, I have been getting crashes like crazy. I was not entirely convinced that the issue was SMT (multithreading) or high CPU/Core load. At any rate, I have been using the utility PoEUncrasher (by the way, thanks for making this tool, whoever you are), and it seems to have helped, but I was still getting a lot of crashes.

While just searching around for general Windows 11 24H2 gaming issues, I came across the AutoHDR bug. Someone posted a screenshot and this is when I saw the other feature in the screenshot named "Optimizations for windowed games". So, I figured, well, I play POE 2 in windowed mode, let's see if this works.

The answer is, yes! It worked for me. Also, it drastically sped up loading screens and opening the map and other things.

So give it try:

have it turned off, still freezes and crashes ``
"
Hi guys,

Made a post about 130 pages ago saying the only thing that stopped the freezes was downgrading to Windows 11 23H2, well 2 weeks later still 0 freezes.

So instead of wasting time with bull**** solutions, like vulkan, hardware accelerated gpu scheduling, disabling PBO, sacrificing your first born child, doing rituals for the Machine God and so on and so forth just downgrade to 23H2 or do a clean install, pause win updates for a month and hope it gets fixed or you get bored and uninstall.

Cheers and Merry X-mas to everyone !

you apparently didn't read a single comment in here and are just posting for the sake of posting as hundreds of people have that update and it still crashes for many lmao
Some user experiencing similar issue in Cyberpunk 2077. NVIDIA promised to fix it in upcomming January driver release.
One of my characters is literally bricked right now because of this. If I select them it goes to the loading screen and bricks 100% of the time. Pretty damn frustrating that I literally cannot play that character at all now until this issue gets fixed.

Posting from my toilet, about to flush my Christmas goods and I was reminded that my goods are going to the same place my $30 went when I purchased the PoE2 alpha. Merry Christmas exiles!!!

Wanna play a game? I'm right next to your stall.

Never have I ever been screwed by a gaming company as hard as GGG.

What worked for me was verify steam files and a restart on pc. 5600x, 3070Ti 32gb RAM, Win 11 24h2.

After i did this yesterday the problem seemed to have gone away. 4 hours and no crashes yet

Maybe for some, try it or re install. If that doesnt work then yeah sorry i wasted your time reading this

4 hours is too short time, I guarantee if you've already had a freeze once, it will happen again.
I haven't had any crashes for more than a day, haha yeah, I almost completed 6 acts without a freeze. But then they came back
Play for a few days and you'll understand that it didn't help you.

I have now played 11 hours and not a single issue, one time my FPS dropped to 0 but then the game stuttered a bit and carried on. Im calling it a night though. All i can say, luck be with me, it worked

Lmfao what the hell do you think leaving a negative review will do?

I bet GGG would be a hell of a lot quicker to put out a response if PoE2 were to drop to a "positive" or even "mixed" rating. Half of the negative reviews are due to crashing on load screens and that's just on Steam. This issue is way bigger than just those posting here. It takes 30 seconds to leave a review and can easily be amended when resolved.

Everyone deserves a break but to leave players in the dark for 3 weeks is disgusting. Its very possible this is a windows/nvidia/amd issue but its on GGG to respond because no one with this issue can replicate it elsewhere.
