" Try switching to vulcan for now (POE2) and report back if the same behaviour persists. While the snow remains,
veiled in the haze of evening, a cold leafless branch. Flowers are only flowers because they fall, but thankfully the Wind. |

Sorry, I know this is a long post and very technical, but can someone who still has this issue check if it is related to this?
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/561084/threads-getting-stuck-on-real-time-priority-on-win/ I don't have PoE2 to check it, but I did see many real-time (16+) priority threads running in PoE1 during load screens, although it never yet froze my game or system. All you need is the Sysinternals "Process Explorer" tool to check the thread priorities, as I wrote about in the part about reproducing the issue with Notepad.exe. It's easier if you have a second screen to monitor the priorities while the game is running. If the issue is confirmed to be there in many threads, could someone also check if the NvUnboost tool I posted about in a reply to that thread fixes the issue or not? It's open source, so if you're paranoid you can check the source code and compile it for yourself, you don't have to use my prebuilt binary. I'm afraid that with just me alone saying that this is serious problem that can affect many games/apps, NVIDIA won't take it seriously. |

" Yes, but it's a very game-specific workaround, and if you show it to NVIDIA, they will just think it's some game specific bug, whereas I don't think this is the case. I believe there is a much more widespread issue in the NVIDIA driver itself, and I'm trying to figure out if the root cause for similar freezes in multiple different apps is the same, so that it can be fixed systematically at the driver level for all apps. But pointing at 25+ years old games like Red Alert probably doesn't help get the ball rolling either. Unfortunately, I've only seen the issue myself in such old games yet, and the root cause was always the same, and only occurred with single core affinity. But I don't usually play any modern games that don't need single core affinity to begin with. Something more modern like PoE2 could be a more convincing example that it's really the NVIDIA driver's thread priority manipulation that's causing many of these issues, especially if a generic tool like NvUnboost solves the issue. But I don't have this game to test and I'd rather not buy it just to test this theory. I can only assume that it might have similar problems, because I've seen similar thread priority issues in PoE1, but "unfortunately" it didn't yet cause any freezes on my system. If you know any other games that are free and have similar issues that appear only on Windows 11 24H2 with NVIDIA drivers, then I could try to check those myself to see if it's the same root cause or not. |

" Path of Exile one has the exact same behaviour as Path of Exile 2, so you could use that to test. |
