Welcome in our world where we all are waitin for fix by GGG.
I've had this problem since the game released, until I decided to reinstall Windows 11 back to 23H2 in February, which resolved all freezes.

Following a 2-month break, I can confirm that now even 23H2 version causes my PC to freeze during loading screens in Dawn of the Hunt.

My CPU usage issue was not happening pre DotH, so this is something introduced in .20

I stopped playing after new years due to this bug. Came back and played the recent patch now, having a blast and no PC freezes yet! Thank you for fixing this tricky bug, GGG.

This might be an issue introduced in 0.2.0 just for you, but it is definitely an issue that has existed since the game's EA release back in December, and has not been fixed yet for most people.
I'm having this issue as well, accompanied with CPU utilization spikes. Sometimes the entire system hangs for 2-10 seconds. Sometimes game crashes with it, but not always. System freezes happen even when the game is paused/in town and minimized. I have tried everything i can but nothing has affected it. Tweaking settings, new nvidia drivers, disabling CPU 0, deleting shader cache etc.

I was using the recommended NVIDIA drivers from last December that didn't supposedly have any issues so i doubt it's a driver issue. I also updated them and was still having the issue.

I had zero issues like this before the 0.2 patch and now the game is nearly unplayable because these CPU spikes are happening every 1 to 5mins. I'm kinda scared that this could be causing some damage to my cpu because of the constant spiking, so i hope GGG responds to this quickly.

Specs:
Windows 11 24H2 (26100.3476) <- haven't tried to rolling back to previous version
CPU: i5-8600K
GPU: 1060 6gb
RAM: 16gb

Yes very old system, but last patch it was working very fine with 50 fps boosted to 120 with frame gen from lossless scaling software(and no that's not the problem, i have tried with and without). Building a new setup this year when i have the time.
After 0.2 I tested out the game after having hard freezes in both PoE 1 and 2.
The freezes usally showed up within 3-4 hours of playtime, top.

Now the "good" news.
So far, no freeze crash.

Some people have reported the issue remains, but not for me.
Changes I did on my end, that I have yet to "turn back", that might have had an impact:
1. I run the game in window mode. Not borderless, but full window. (thought this might give me a clue what causes the freeze, hence why I changed it.)
2. I turned off the option ingame that enables cpu multithreading. (turned this off since changing how many cores the game uses had some small impact on run-time before crash... or so I imaganed anyway.)

So far I am in act 3 on my main, and have made several other characters and taken them to act2, and as I stated, so far no crash. If this changes I will update this post. But I don't think it will change as so far I have not have even one hard freeze.

Will this have changed for you? No clue, but I want to let people in this thread know that at least there is some progess on whatever the "total freeze in loading screen"-bug was.
Same over here - since yesterday I got instant BSOD's.
Tried all regarding config and reinstalled Windows already. No chance.

Hope this will be fixed tomorrow in the patch...
It's been months and i completely stopped playing because of this bug... I really hope GGG can fix this soon so that i can jump back on. It's just not worth it to brick my pc with constant freezes and hard resets because of that.
Same issue here:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (BOX)
• Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI
• RAM: G.SKILL TRIDENT Z5 RGB DDR5 2x32GB 6400MHz CL32
• Storage: Kingston KC3000 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe x4 Gen4 NVMe
• GPU: MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24GB
• Case: Be Quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX Black
• CPU Cooling: Be Quiet! Pure Loop 2 FX 280 (2x140mm)
• Power Supply: Asus ROG Platinum 1200W

My workaround was to disable the 3D V-Cache (Game Mode) in the BIOS. This means my CPU no longer uses the X3D feature, but at least the game no longer freezes the entire PC. I still experience occasional in-game freezes, but after 3–5 seconds, the game recovers and continues running. Sigh…
