Why POE2’s Direction Is Worrying for Veterans and Newcomers Alike

This topic here is about the longterm problems that a vastly punishing game model causes. And the feedback OP gave is reflecting and outlining the serious threats of the punishment 'vision' concerning the longlivity of PoE2.

Why is the only "Solution" to this problem some variation of "make the game move so fast and scale so hard you don't even really play it anymore, like PoE1"?

Did you ever have to trade for gear before endgame in Diablo? Diablo 2? Diablo 3? Diablo 4? Last Epoch? Lost Ark? Marvel Heroes?

Nope. Loot off the ground is good enough to carry you through the campaign in all of those games. GGG just wants to be sadistic for some reason.

Isnt poe1 trade came as an extension to d2 "runes as a currency" mindset? I guess, people were doing that a lot earlier than you think. LE also caved in by adding merchants guild. D3 and their auction house was a catastrophy, but it also existed. Cant say anything about other titles, but some of your examples seems to be incorrect. If you havent participated in such sctivity doesnt mean that its not presented.

None of these games require you to trade in order to beat the campaign.

Man someone report all of us who beat the campaign without trading, we must have been hacking.

And nothing requires you to trade in poe1 and poe2 to do that. SSF is also presented and it seems like both titles give you all the required tools to finish campaign. If that road is bumpy in a second game - thats what this topic about, no?

To be fair, PoE2 has SSF (Solo-Self Found) too, & there are SSF players that aleady beat the campaign, & are already in the endgame like myself. So beating PoE2 campaign without trade & party is possible.

But in my experience, PoE2 SSF is more challenging compare to PoE1 SSF.

No, you just got lucky drops. Congrats. A lot of players don't.

And there will be people on the planet who never got a single ex, and there will be people who got a mirror from hillock. Luck is hard to measure on a single persons' experience. Statistics should be gathering atm, so lets see how GGG address that issues in the future. Now they already took some actions by raising drop rates in early acts.

PoE2 is out for two weeks now. I didn't reach endgame there, i was just burned out and i have serious issues with my commitment of enjoying a game when being punished into Nirvana.

I say this, because yes, SSF and hardcore do exist in PoE2, but i highly doubt, the high contrast between enjoyment and dopamin vs the insane amount of punishment and losing time investment contribute to longterm motivation. After two weeks nobody can tell if these modes will ensure any retention success.

Holy COW, where in god's name did you hear me say THAT?
It's so amusing (and infuriating) to watch so many players in this and every other thread cry and scream about how it's "punishing" and "tedious" to engage with the game.

Like, how DARE a game disrespect your time so badly as to require you to hit some monsters more than once. Or engage a boss for longer than four whole seconds. Or take more time to walk across a map than an adult human being takes to walk to the other side of their bathroom.

Seriously, y'all. Path 1 is right. Over. There. Right next door. it is the next game up from Path 2 in your Steam library. Or wherever it happens to be. It is clearly the game you actually want, where actually engaging with and playing the game is the surest possible sign of abject failure. Why not play it?

Just to add, luck is not the only factor for successful "SSF" playthrough. Choosing the "right" build is a big factor aswell. There are builds that don't require too much gear investment to take off compared to others. & Some game knowledge will help aswell to circumvent any roadblock you can find.

So I guess, the stats on the class & skill (gems) distribution can help GGG, to find those pain points why certain class or build strugle compared to others.
