Why Does PoE2 Keep XP Loss on Death?

You need something to balance out the game with, or else most builds would just be full-on damage if there were no penalty for dying.

I'm in favor that they keep the on death xp penalty, especially in softcore. It gives players a reason more of a reason to care about gear and resistances. Purely anecdotal, but it feels like half the community is complaining the game doesn't have enough challenge, and removing this penalty would make it even "easier", while the other half is screams that xp penalties and limited portals are too punishing.
Also, maybe a hot take but I don't feel like it should be, level 100 shouldn't be the goal and if you can't make it to level 90 to 92 because of xp losses, you should really check your gear. It isn't that difficult. |

Yes, this mechanic has so many fans and so many players like it. You can see that maybe 5% are still playing... Guys, your path is like the German path of intelligent green energy. There is green energy, but no one can pay for it and we are losing our way of life. Continue this way and avoid many forum threads as you have already lost most of the players. Keep going. BR |

Players will move there, and then after about a month or so league there will be over, and.. oh POE2 league will be about to start up. It's a cycle, one that every "live service" ARPG goes through. |

I'm tired of these posts. There is XP loss, get over it.
You won't get 100, get over it. Wanna get 100? Do what I did and play easy maps and make a balanced build, you won't die. the large majority of my deaths are due to getting fps drops. I fucking hate having to lose XP because of things that aren't my fault. You can keep it, but then limit it to the ongoing map because that's a massive pain to die because of trash servers

people don't lose xp on death in WoW or in Dota. They lose time. That's what GGG should do. Going backwards is a major pain in the ass, like equipment repair was in Diablo 2

Enough with the BS, POE1/POE 2 has 0 competitive reasons to have an XP penalty, there is no ladder nor will there ever be , casual players should be allowed to die and respawn with 0 penalty.
XP loss on death , is a punishing recycled mechanic for people who are just trying to run content and escape reality for a few hours. Anyone who says different is just lying to themselves. This game doesn't even have the decency to tell you why they died , with so much onscreen clutter "oh maybe it was the purple thing , or the fat fk that exploded on death, or the circle I couldn't see because of all my circles, flashes" etc....., yet for a 1-3% map it will take 10% of your XP just like that. "OH but a 100 is important" ..no it's not , it's an extra point and a sense of relief.. that's it or at best a 1 out 40. I've had a few 100's...who cares in 3-4 months nothing but an abandoned Standard ghost. "But what about HC ? "it permanent", bla bla bla....who cares is my answer, most of the so called HC players , cheat death with either macros or quick logouts...not exactly hardcore "oh but it teaches you".....what exactly ? "Your time is not valued" , "learn to play" , 'I can do it, why can't you" , "you need to read guides" you need better gear" -----My favorite one , when both 3.27 and 0.40 have had the worst loot drops in the games history as well as player retention and you want to further drive them away..... If we actually had a log , that said exactly why you died and why your deserved your time wasted , then yes then your could say "Get Better" until then STFU with this nonsense. If they can track, how many passed up a mercenary or said fk it I'm not doing this stupid temple and what loot they missed then they can damn well tell you why you died , and give people the tools to "get better".
