Abyss Enemies feel way too Overtuned

Endgame itself doesn't seem viable unless you have 50% of passive points on defensive stats.
Playing as a glass cannon lightning mage, if i go to a high enough tier where I can actually farm XP, I just get 1 shot by random stuff. Even the bosses in the Acts seem like gate keeping stat checkers who kill any build that neglects to build enough defense. Glass cannon might be viable for multiplayer but not solo play. Same for one handed shield warrior that maxes defense, I can’t imagine playing that solo. Last edited by TwitchGLHFsport#2155 on Feb 17, 2026, 11:58:24 PM

I have a hunch that Abyssal mods add effectiveness to rares because there is quite a noticeable increase in tankiness from a white/blue Strider of the Pit vs a rare one with an Abyssal modifier.
It seems like those mods might do a bit more than the typical rare modifiers in terms of buffing the base version of the monster. I could be wrong but I think there's something going on there. As far as being "overtuned" there's really only two Abyssal mods that might be overtuned - the reanimated chaos barrage attack (can't remember it right now) and Shadewalker. They can both feel unfair when they catch you off guard, but both also have some form of counter play. If you're dying to Abyssal mods to the point where they're a notable grievance compared to other content, you have a build/skill issue. The ice beam and lightning barrage attacks are a build/gear check - take a look at your avoidance (evasion/block), resistances, and elemental ailment (freeze) threshold. There are some times when certain map mods and Abyssal modifiers and normal rare modifiers can converge into deadly scenarios, but nothing that's really any more deadly than the heightened danger that also exists in things like Ritual, Expedition, Breach, or Delirium - it's all dangerous when you're not prepared. I will make ONE exception in regards to Abyss being overtuned: That one tablet mod that makes each consecutive Abyss hole within a map pop out deadlier and deadlier monsters. That thing can ABSOLUTELY create overtuned monsters lol. I'm wondering if you just did 10 Abyss maps in a row with this crazy modifier and you're here unaware, claiming that Abyss is just overtuned lol. That tablet modifier can be a death sentence in maps with a lot of Abyss holes. |

" Ive been playing since league start, I have 4 level 90+'s, Ive done quite a bit, Im not pulling shit out of my ass, Ive said it multiple times, I don't have an issue mapping or bossing, thats not what this post is about, theres a reason I titled it abyss enemies feel overtuned, Ive felt this way for a good month, and the more I do the more it reinstates my thoughts Its not every abyss, its the odd abyss, where theres legit ridconculous enemies with affix combos that are just ridiculous and the damage scaling is not like other rares, I have no problem with 0 revive t16 maps, the odd abyss and I'm just dead usually on Guard but the occasion where I'm not Abyss enemies were buffed this season, They really didn't need a buff and I really don't see why they chose to buff them, Theres a reason I'm saying their overtuned, Lazer beam was already deadly but this is cherry ontop Not every abyss mod and abyss enemy, Just the odd combo and occasion, I'm saying thats why they need to tune aspects of this mechanic down, + the discrepancy in rewards it really just makes me not want to farm abyss's then I remember oh ya preserved parts :// There needs to be more consistency, better balancing/tuning, make some mods straight incompatible to avoid certain scenarios etc |

Yeah, this is basically my experience too.
Abyss mobs hit absurdly hard and there's usually a whole crowd of them, so it stops feeling like a "random encounter" and starts feeling like a surprise main quest you didn't accept. One second you're clearing, the next you're lost in green chaos and get deleted by something you didn't even register. Before I had CI, Abyss was my number one cause of "guess I'll just not click that". I died to it enough times that I started treating Abyss cracks like they're lava. Now that I have CI and effectively infinite chaos res, it doesn't spike me nearly as hard. I can still die if I play dumb (and I do, regularly), but at least I can actually interact with the mechanic instead of just exploding on contact. Tier matters a lot too. T16 juiced Abyss is straight-up unhinged and you have to play it like it's dangerous content. T15 feels mostly fine, and below that it's not really scary. But overall, Abyss is still the most lethal "random encounter" for me. Rituals, random packs, whatever - those feel tame in comparison. So yeah, maybe it's not "everything is impossible", but the spike potential is way higher than most other side content. A small nerf, or at least fewer worst-case mod/ability combos, would make it feel a lot more consistent. |

" If a player is at this point of thinking, that everything in POE2 is just rng, then there is just nothing fundamentally to agree on. As this is just off the deep end. Mash the clean

With waystone mods scaling everything as a % instead of flat increase, the numbers have to be imbalanced as hell for rare mobs.
I really don't like the waystone mod system the way it is, It is imbalanced by nature. adding bleed to a waystone mod is an abomination for ES builds. can't we just have certain mobs do bleed damage, then have a flat increase in damage for all of them? I don't want to have to read the waystone and then respec my build just to adapt to the mods. I also don't want to have to prune and sell them. I really wish the mods just increased HP instead of adding mods that have defenses which specifically target certain builds. all I want is more quantity of monsters, I want to drown in mobs, maybe for them to be a little more durable in general. An armored mob should stay armored, A mob that inflicts bleed should inflict bleed. A mob that does an elemental damage should have elemental resistance for that element. It's readable that way and keeps gameplay the way it should be. All mobs should not be effected by blanket stat changes unless its flat HP and flat damage. Alright well I mean there's a couple people in here telling you that it's a solvable puzzle and you're over here claiming that with your four 90+ characters you already have all the pieces and no, it's not.
I'm not trying to argue against the fact that Abyssal monsters are difficult, I'm trying to help you problem solve your way through the situation. It's okay if you don't really want to and you're just here to vent frustrations I guess. Could help a bit if you share your character or show an example of what's giving you trouble. |

" Their degen shroud walker stuff is way to overtuned.... Like for real. Degen is fine, but not the amount of degen compared with denied recovery and the damage they can add on top of it. |
|
" Why do you think he is wrong? He is not quite off the charts. Getting good stuff in the campaign is RNG based, either through drops or through vendors, we don't have deterministic ways to force good upgrades the same way we have it in PoE 1, through crafting recipes and or actually useful aura gems aka "Purity of elements" anyone was able to use. Therefore good progress is RNG. You can counter it with skill, but it will feel shit if you not utilize some underhanded tech or got at least some useful stuff at some point. Crafting? Literal RNG. Besides Essences and some later steps or having the right bases already lying in front of you. Is there besides dodging at the right moment anything that is not RNG based? Can you provide some of your experience. That would be, a way to argue against it. |

" The fact that they think the entire game is rng. Crafting isnt really rng though for many of the powerful items. Basically most main hand weapons, most armour pieces, most amulets, most rings.... Its only down to perfect items with top tier rolls where RNG actually comes into play. Loot drops sure. Nothing else really. The OP thinks nothing is skill based. And that them dying to abyss is just a roll of a dice. Rather than anything on their end. Basically off the deep end entitlement. Mash the clean
