Why is filter white items still in the game?
I've seen too many times in global chat people saying they never find maps and it turns out they have the option on. In my opinion its detrimental to the game to hide useful items. Loot in high iiq maps aside items don't seem to clutter the screen enough to warrant the option. And even if they did, excessive junk loot would then be the problem and not white items.
I think this option causes a lot of confusion for newer players. R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E. Last edited by ampdecay#1924 on Jan 4, 2013, 7:38:52 PM

GGG should add warning message when someone turin it on and when player hit lvl 60.
"Is there such a thing as an absolute, timeless enemy? There is no such thing, and never has been. And the reason
is that our enemies are human beings like us. They can only be our enemies in relative terms." |

I was under the impression that maps arent affected by this filter?

Just tested this in game and maps are in fact filtered out with the option enabled. They are a white item after all.
Given that there are also vendor recipe/crafting items to also look out for I generally agree with the OP that the feature is a little redundant, but it is an option. It is not too difficult to take a minute to open the options tab and have a look at what the options actually are - it's the first thing I do with any game. It's unfortunate if people are missing map drops, but it's part of being new to the game to make rookie mistakes. If you don't like the clutter of items on screen you can also toggle Z and check for drops after an area is cleared. So many options! “I conceive of nothing, in religion, science or philosophy, that is more than the proper thing to wear, for a while.”

Another thing to do:
Get into the habit of hitting the alt-key after a successful screen clearing to look at the loot. D2 didn't have all these fancy filtering options so you kinda got used to doing that, it's a useful habit to get into in PoE as well. Closed beta member since: March 19, 2012

" Or play with "always show items" activated and "only pick items up when the key is pressed". Helps a ton in finding items with good socket links. |

It would be nice if they had a sub-option to exclude maps from being filtered out with the rest of the white items.

Odd, I was pretty sure maps are excluded from the filter's effect. It was so in the past at least.
Map with a large party and IIQ/IIR mods? You can mountains of white/blue trash. That's why its still there. EDIT: aaaand just as i said that, the upcoming patch removes the filter. I haven't played in a huge party situation like that, only saw a few, so not sure if it is more manageable right now, but apparently it is. Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind. In game name is Kaosu and/or ChaosBlade. Last edited by ransagy#7315 on Jan 4, 2013, 5:03:55 AM

Happy to report that with the latest patch, the ability to filter white items is removed. It was just causing more problems than it was worth. We don't want to teach players the behavior that white items, which ultimately are among the most important things you will find, are worth ignoring. The fact that the filter affected maps made the decision to remove it even easier.
