Why is filter white items still in the game?
" Because you can't Alch/Regal/Chaos currency items. -- Providing opinions since I was old enough to tell my sister she was ugly. |

I really don't like the decision to remove the filter as an option. It should've just been changed to show maps and have a selector to also show items with X sockets (numerical) and X sockets (linked).
Now I'll have to go back to leaving it on all the time and having white garbage clutter the screen, reading them and being killed by them and that really blows. Also we need an option to filter magic items, they are honestly worth less than a white item. Same as above of course, wouldn't want to miss a white end-game maul that dropped 5 linked just as much as I wouldn't want to miss a magic one since you can always fix it with currency, but I don't want to see any magic items ever again either. Sifting through the 99.9% of loot that is completely worthless is mostly a headache, I don't really understand why the option to reduce that a little would be removed, seems like a step backwards to me. |

Or if people could press alt every now and then we wouldn't be stuck with masses of white on the screen 100% of the time.

I've read through these concerns, and I do think they're valid. I'll talk with Chris to see if we can maybe work out an option that hides the lower end white items, but allows you to see items with "x or greater sockets", as well as maps. Thanks for the feedback!

" Hey Brian, any chance we can get this kind of treatment in the looting thread? |

I think if people choose to turn white items off and never turn it on to look then they deserve to lose out on the quality, sockets and links - they are making that choice by turning the filter off and don't need hand holding because they make that choice. People who turn it on or play with it on all the time, deal with the loot to get the benefit White gear should not be changed at all - no matter what they have on them.
On the other hand i don't believe any maps should be white - their over all importance to the end game should give them a unique color (like skill gems) instead of white so they are not filtered out, a light color maybe pink, mint green, something in a lighter color range that won't blend in with any of the surroundings. Maps, orbs and skill gems are the few things i think people should not be able to filter out because of their overall importance to the game. “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

" Which is exactly why white items shouldnt be filtered out, their overall importance to the game is on the same level as maps, orbs and skill gems. If its accepted that white items are useless enough to be completely filtered out then why have them drop at all in the first place? R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

" THANK YOU! The biggest headache I ever had with d2 wasn't its controls (I quite liked them actually, sending skills to right click with your keyboard then right clicking as the 'fire' mechanism just felt right) or its sometimes acidic playerbase or the repetitive and unbalanced nature of the game. It was the unbeleivable quantity of utter garbage you had to sift through nonstop, like reading a really awful 400 page book because it has 2 paragraphs in there that are just pure gold. I'd rather just read the 2 paragraphs and not know the other pages exist, but some people like those pages and should totally have that option too. Showing, for example, all white/magic boots/helms/gloves that have 4 linked sockets and NO OTHERS would save me so much grief having to spend precious milliseconds checking every item that drops, and using alt even with the 'filter white items on' to check for maps periodically while coasting through a map is a pain too. An option to automatically pick up currency drops (and possibly note it in the chatlog) while playing by yourself would be fantastic too, I don't pick up scrolls anymore really because it just takes too much time for the reward involved, rather just ignore em, but it'd be nice if they got auto-grabbed (maybe just scrolls and orbs of trans/alt/aug? or a menu that lets you select which is auto-grabbed?) because I hate leavin cash around. Singleplayer only, obviously, would be awkward in multi. But yeah thanks for reading! You guys are the best dev's I've ever seen in regards to community feedback/communication, hands down no contest the best. Man I can't wait for open beta and the last wipe ever. OH AND ACT 3! HELL YEAH |

" Personally, I still don't like this. I find flickering the whites on and off helps me locate maps better because the flicker from the box around the maps help them stand out more. Not only do I see more things by using alt, the game looks better too! I don't like seeing all those whites on the screen. I can flicker them on and off as I move around and I do just fine finding good whites. The original change was bad this possible new one is simply less bad. Please just give us the original check box back. |

" Use Z button to toggle all items off when you only care about rares/gems/currency assigned to you, with a timer. IE, the moment before a boss/champ/rare kill, or when the screen becomes otherwise too cluttered. Use Z button to toggle all items back on when you're done with the post-kill loot rush, or when you otherwise want to inspect all other drops to see if any good whites dropped. Double win. The interface works perfectly. Learn how to do it this way; it's the one that makes sense. --
I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago. |
