The -15% exp penalty is obnoxiously bad outdated design.

only problem is the desync shit. Exp penalty is very good, should be even higher the higher you get. It's just not funny if you die because of some wierd desync and i think that is what the OP wants to express. Multiple times i ran in a room, took "oh shit damage", ran out and still took "oh shit damage" from invisible sources. Only defence against that is a truckload of defece so you wont die from it. Thats why Hardcoreplayers survive that shit.
I dont enjoy exp loss on death. But this game is fun enough for me to get over it. Ill admit it does add a sense of panic and excitement when im close to dying. So I guess mission accomplished.

The problem with the xp loss is that there is no way to get some of it back. The diablo 2 version would be much better, even if u had to run for ur corpse without items to get 75% of lost xp back.

Diablo 2 mobs hit for a lot less than anything in PoE, also the exp loss was smaller and you recovred half of it when you corpse ran anyway.

i see sooo many people advocating glasscannon builds and this would make it even worse. build diversity is great, because tanky builds have a small niche even in default league. remove death penalty and everyone and their grandma would run 100% dps builds within a week.

Genuinely need look no further than Diablo 3 with it's 3 second death penalty for evidence of this claim.
Joining the hate bandwagon because without exp penalty softcore would be completely pointless

At least with -15% exp, you still have to be good to reach the cap, whereas without any kind of penalty, anyone would make it there eventually

Also playing tactically is a lot more fun and why I am enjoying HC on my Ranger so much... Always thinking how I am gonna handle the next room and the next group of mobs, rather than mindlessly rushing in like an idiot, which is the mentality of most softcore players
ITT: OP complains that this game has no challenge, and that it punishes you too much for dying.

15% exp loss is a ridiculous amount for something serverside that happens a lot, or just RNG deaths for people who don't play moronders with everytalent on defense.

It should be maybe 2% cruel 4% merciless at the highest.

Diablo 2 only had a 5% penalty if you corpse ran, and mobs hit 1/4th as hard as this game.

Yeah, but this is not Diablo 2.

its a great design that actually keeps you on your toes even against weakest mobs and not mindlesly rushing in areas like a headless chicken.

The problem is that malicious players can easily wipe the party simply by over-pulling. If griefers enjoy annoying players by grabbing their loot, imagine what they will do once they realise they can wipe out your experience bar as well.
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

1. M-a-r-a-u-d-e-r-s.

2. Stop dying then. It really is that simple. It's there to penalise you for you doing something wrong, be it poor gear, poor skills, poor gems or just flat out poor play. At 2% and 4% you'd hardly even notice the penalty, let along rethink a combat approach to avoid it.
