free unlimited respec on passive skill (or a sandboxed Free Unlimited Respecs League)
" I am not sure if we played same games.. in WoW case, you are right..but there is problem with current talent system..there is just no customization..just choose your spec and that's it.. MoP will hopefully fix it a bit.. But for GW part.. well.. I just don't know how or where you played..It's true that in competitive teams, there were cookie cutter builds used very very often ..BUT outside the competitive "scene", there were tons of teams just trying super weird things, compositions and builds.. it was crazy..and hell a lot of fun And no..I am in same D3 beta as everyone..and TBH.. pick skill A or B is exactly same like picking gem A or gem B except you can try different skills easily. And people are experimenting a lot. Passive tree in PoE while it's impressive, 90% of this tree is just way to screw your character or make it right..there is not much fun behind it..if you are not mix maxer. I applaud for keystone ideas..these are awesome..but for now.. D3 rune system and passives seems to be much better . |

" People in D3 are experimenting because there's an hour of gameplay available. There's not much to do but experiment. Mark this post down: within a few weeks of D3 release people will hit 60, test various specs, find the most optimal one, and by the time PoE hits open beta every Wizard you encounter in D3 will be a Hajblazard* *(just a stand-in for the inevitable contraction of some overpowered skill/rune combo and the word Wizard). |

" Maybe it's just because I haven't played as much as some of you guys, but every time I make a new character, I start finding all sorts of new items (e.g., skill gems, fancy belts), and I just have so much fun looking at each new item with fresh eyes, knowing that everything I see could be useful to this new character. Anyway, that's not important. Clearly, we experience the game differently. The real question is whether having easy respecs for you, will impact my fun. As long as I don't have the option myself (that is, I can play in an environment where I'm forced do without it), then I don't think that it does. "That was just a bit of gentle ribbing. Like how the hardcore League refers to default as 'softcore.' |

" And if not, will you eat your words? :) I am not saying there wont be cookie cutter builds.. I am just saying there will be tons of people trying weird builds..because ...they can. in PoE with current respec system... will be same like Diablo 2 hammerdins and WW barbars everywhere(insert additional popular D2 builds). " Don't get me wrong my friend. I am alt-holic.. I love rerolling. I am one of these guys who hate the fact, that we can only have 10 characters in D3.. because If I could, I would make like 20 different characters instantly. But many of my friends are not like me. Few years ago i was strongly against any respec system in any RPG games. But after experiencing few easy respec system and playing with my friends.. I understand that catering to them and allowing them respec easily and have fun as they want is not affecting me in any way. I can still reroll new character when I want try new build. I can still play in way I like and hell..my friends can do the same. |

Easy solution:
After a certain level, you have unlimited respecs available in the town for that level and onwards or via a repeatable quest. This would mean that if the level requirement for access to the town or quest is 50, you cannot respec until level 50. Then you will have unlimited respecs. What is the point of this? People who whine about respecs ruining the game can play normally and reroll to test builds, or wait till level XX and figure out that there are a lot of things that they want to change on that char and be able to do so. Having unlimited respecs mid-endgame will stimulate the economy so much that I guarantee that GGG's goal of trading being the predominant aspect of the game will be realized. |

The lack of a regular enough free respec system is what makes me not like this game as much.
In Diablo 2 you got one full respec per difficulty, and you could earn a full respec killing the bosses on the hardest difficulty and getting a semi rare drop. People who dislike the idea of a full respec are generally of an elitist attitude and believe it will keep noobs and softcores out of their game. I'm no noob or softcore player, I can play games for hundreds of hours. Being forced to replay at a lower level regardless of how much fun I had the first time, is not fun when I know I have a higher level character. I set my tree off by 20 points listening to people claiming how badass all fire damage build was. Being less then effective as a barbarian against half the enemies in the game is not a badass build. I stopped playing and corrected it during a skill tree wipe that happens in the Beta. I don't imagine I am the only one who does this. A game where you're players are stopping play because of an unfun aspect of the game is not a game that can survive in the long run. There are only so many elite players in any game that can keep a game going without people who want this kind of feature, you lose a lot of players. I dig this game, I like it, I may come back to it if I get bored of D3, and then again I might not. And if I didn't it would be for this one feature. It's one thing to not like a feature of a game and I will still play it, then to have a feature that makes me stop playing the game. If you have a feature that makes players stop playing, your system is broken. |

i believe that full respec should exist in this game.
HOWEVER, each player would only get ONE per difficulty (like diablo 2, it worked no complaints) if players want more then that, they have to complete a badass quest. You know something they might have to enlist the help of friends with because there is a labyrinth of deathly death awaiting them. of course there should be an option to purchase a respec item from the cash shop, since this game will be following a F2P model, i dont see the harm in this. if this is the case then players who DONT donate can respec when. A) they reach a certain point per difficulty. B) Defeat a labyrinth of deathly death and earn a respec. or C) purchase a respec item from someone who bought it with real money.(assuming that the item would be tradeable). It'll keep the game from being all fairy fairy like D3 is heading, and potentially introduce an economy around respec items. INFACT, if we were to make the quest for a respec item SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard, potentially we could have a market of respec items simalier to Eve onlines Plex system. (albiet having different reasons for purchasing a respec and a plex) arghhhh. so many options i guess im just drilling out ideas in my head. TL;DR Respec should be in, how limited depends on what "feels" right to GGG. Donaters should be able to buy respecs, simply becaues the game is a F2P model. |

Personally system is fine, it is meant to be difficult and unforgiving. I personally obsess over the build making and I'd rather make a new char than use same one and change his stats every day. The devs are described as hardcore rpg fans, they will leave it hardcore and will not cater to the 'carebears'. Soon as skill points start flying every where, they become less valuable and there will be no point in the orbs of regret. [Ooh a pun]
If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif. |
