Extreme Lag Spikes
Well, I've had this problem for about 2 weeks or so. I get, what I call, MASSIVE lag spikes. They may not actually be lag spikes, seeing how the in-game latency meter, stalls out at whatever MS it was at, rather than going into the 1000's.
I live in the middle of the US, and of course play on the American server, when the game is working properly, I have anywhere between 30-70ms latency, sometimes this jumps up to around 150 or so, but never any higher. When I get these "Lag Spikes" the latency meter stays on whatever ms I was at before the spike started. These can last anywhere between 5 seconds all the way up to 5 minutes. During this time, I can move freely, occasionally the mobs will follow me aswell, though I can not hit anything, or interact with anything. But, the game does still go on during these, as there has been many times, after one of these spikes, I come back to find myself dead. They do not happen on the Euro server, however. But seeing as I get a constant 200+ms over there, it isn't an option for me to play on that server. I've included some Tracerts to Pathofexile.com. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask, and I'll get the required information posted a.s.a.p Ign: Desync Last edited by Cig#3092 on May 14, 2012, 9:24:07 PM

Well this is about a pain in the ass, to get these to post here. Had to do each line individually. So I'm not gonna do that for all the tracerts I have, here is the latest one that I did, at the time of the stall out.
1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms dslrouter.westell.com [10.0.0.1] 2 10 ms 11 ms 9 ms vi-d22-1.rb.gh.centurytel.net [69.29.213.1] 3 9 ms 11 ms 10 ms 64-91-18-12.dyn.centurytel.net [64.91.18.12] 4 12 ms 12 ms 12 ms bb-kscbmonr-jx9-01-ge-0-0-3-0.core.centurylink.n et [204.9.121.184] 5 11 ms 12 ms 11 ms bb-kscbmonr-jx9-02-ae0.core.centurytel.net [206.51.69.6] 6 13 ms 12 ms 11 ms kcm-edge-18.inet.qwest.net [67.128.236.101] 7 26 ms 27 ms 26 ms dax-edge-03.inet.qwest.net [67.14.2.174] 8 27 ms 27 ms 26 ms ae19.bbr02.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com [67.130.194.54] 9 * * 93 ms ae1.dar01.sr01.dal01.networklayer.com [173.192.18.255] 10 * * 29 ms po1.fcr05.sr06.dal01.networklayer.com [66.228.118.221] 11 47 ms 48 ms 50 ms pathofexile.com [173.193.53.194] As you can see something is happening after Hop 8. This seems to be a common occurrence with the traceroutes during the time of the lag. This has basically rendered me unable to play this game, so any help, you may be able to provide would be much appreciated. Ign: Desync Last edited by Cig#3092 on May 14, 2012, 9:47:13 PM

I get these pretty often too, playing in Australia over here. Have to wait up to a minute before I start getting server updates again, at which point I almost always instantly die.

" Yeah, it's pretty bad, not sure what has caused this however, since I use to be able to play the game just fine. Hoping we can get some sort of a fix for this, so I can continue playing. Ign: Desync

Just an update, it seems to definitely be something on the Path of Exile servers. During the spikes that I get in game, I can't access the website either. Will just act like it is trying to connect until the spike quits. I can access any other website during this time just fine.

" Server lag, and hop timeout has nothing to do with your computer at all. It appears to be a bad hop from one Isp to another. Like I stated in my first post, I normally play with 30-70ms latency, and have never experienced these lag spikes up until roughly 2 weeks ago. Ign: Desync

Hmm, still no reply on any attempt of a fix, or any information acknowledging, there is something wrong. At this rate, it sadly appears I'll have to go somewhere else, to get my ARPG fix, since this game has became unplayable. Quite unfortunate really.

We've had many reports of this recently, usually due to Torrent programs, most commonly uTorrent, sending packets which for some reason disable our connection to you. Try turning any torrent clients off, resetting the router (Because uTorrent will still send the packets even after you've closed it), and playing again.

" Hmm, I do have Utorrent on my PC, but can't actually remember the last time I used it. I'll definitely try resetting the router, to see if something was interfering with the packets. I'll report back, if the problem is still present. Thanks Rory. Ign: Desync
