Extreme Lag Spikes

No change after trying the suggested possible fixes. Opened uTorrent, made sure I wasn't seeding anything, reset the router, and still unplayable stints of lag. Any other ideas, as to what could be causing the large spikes, and timeouts?

I've been having the issue all year and it means the game is unplayable.
It only happens for me with the server at 67.228.248.130. All other IPs work fine.

Have no idea what the cause is but everything points to something being wrong with that server.

Cig, is it possible for you to keep a command prompt open (second monitor, or while windowed) open while you play? You can keep an eye on the IP you are connected to using

netstat -b -n 2

That will list all your active connections every 2 seconds. One of them will be Client.exe
If you're only getting the lag with that IP, then I will know I'm not alone :P

Yup, I'll definitely do that tonight, and see if I can get any solid results for that server being faulty. Thanks for the tip, hopefully we can get this narrowed down, so we can get back to playing this game!

Tried to play again tonight, had CMD up, never connected to the server IP that you had Malice, I was normally connecting to a 74. IP. Had the problem the whole time, the game is still unplayable, well technically playable, but due to the XP loss on death, I'm not going to bother playing seeing how due to the lag spikes I think I've had something to the effect of 30ish deaths, up to cruel act 2, where as normally I wont have a single death until Chaos.

Once again, hope this gets sorted out, so I can return to this game, as it is my favorite, out of D3, T2, and PoE.

Until then, have fun guys, maybe I'll see you again soon.

Well there goes that theory
It COULD be your guys network cards. Network cards, especially really old ones, tend to not handle modern netcode so well. I don't know much about this game in terms of netcode and how the servers actually send and receive data but it could be as simple as a bad/too old network card. If you are on a laptop especially, maybe not so much with modern desktops though.

As always a fresh reset of your modems/router/hubs/switches/network card/etc helps.

Initially I somewhat thought the same thing, with it possibly being an outdated driver for my card, or something to that effect. But what has led me to believe that isn't the case, is that I can play a multitude of games just fine, from LoL, MW3, Battlefield 3, a beta in which i can not name, and a few others. I would suspect that if my network card, was either out of date, or faulty in some way, that I would be experiencing this on more than just this game.

The real kicker, for me anyways, that determines that it is a server/IP issue with PoE, is that I can play on the Euro server without these spikes ever happening. Not that I'm really able to play effectively with 200 constant ping. But when I try to play on the American server, this happens constantly.

Did the lag spike occurs when there is a large number of loot drops after you take down the mobs?

Did the global chat is turned on?

Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles.
Self-impost EXILED.
have huge lags on some lacaitions. but other locaitions work clear and perfect...

Has nothing to do with, the amount of mobs, loot, or if chat is on or off. Same thing happens no matter what.
