Have similar issues, this morning did 3 maps T12,T13,T14 all maps buffed with 150%+ maps, one irradiated, more magic monsters, increased rare, rare have a chance to have extra modifier. The waystone find on the nodes gave me 200-270% on all nodes.
Got 1 T11 and the rest was T4-T7(in total around 5 maps dropped), had a node with a boss but did not get any waystone drop at all from him.
Have all nodes in the atlas tree focused on waystones tier+, extra rare and more modifiers.
This drop rate just make not want to play the game and force me to run t8-t10 waystones and hope that a higher will drop. So then i login to play it is basiclly 3 nodes get this drop and I logoff as it feels like the game do is not wanting me to progress, been like this the last few days after I started to get to map T13+.
As has been mentioned, 150% is very low. On a boss map that might get you 1 map of the same (or higher) tier. Aim for 300% (raw, before your atlas tree affects it) and do that on a boss.
Try to use tablets that give more waystone drop chance, hit all the towers around a block of boss nodes and then go after the boss nodes. Save your 300% ones just for it.
If you want send me a DM with your IGN and I'll give you a T14 that has over 300% on it, you run that against a boss that has at least 1 tower giving more drop chance on it.

Map sustain in POE1 was a huge issue, forums and reddit were full of posts just like this one about how sustain is impossible. Then people figured out how it works and it spread via streamers. Before that it was waystones and conquerors. Sustain has always been something you need to learn and overcome.
I played endless hours in POE1 but I never had to worry about strategies for map drops. At least not for the purpose of sustaining my map levels. We did the basic atlas specs to assure higher map levels, but I also have those specs here in POE2 now.
But in POE1 maps dropped everywhere. I didn't have to focus on boss fighting and juicing on top of that. But even if - at least there was a boss in every map. And how boring is it to know that waystones basically only drops from bosses? Where the excitement here when you fight mobs?
It's crystal clear that drops in general are something that needs work - and this also affects waystone drops. I'm sure GGG will address that. But right now - it's not fun at all. That's a fact.

Thx for the offer but I'm trying out ssf to see how it goes, but how do you get 300%, think the highest I have seen is just under 300% do you corrupt them?

I do primarily T14-T16 and have specced all the nodes for higher tier waystones to drop. I don't now how this is calculated but from the nodes it should be 70%. I do transmute - augment - regal or alch every waystone and if they have bad waystone % i vaal them. However the waystones that drop are almost always T2-T9 especially after the latest patch. Feels more like 5% higher tier drops than 70%. Having to grind lower tiers or buying waystones from other players sucks.
The way I do it is quite different.
I have stacked "rare", "magic" and "pack" modifiers, combined with waystone quantity and item quantity (11% + 38%)
The mechanic all maps are with either delirium or breach. (The goal being to increase the monsters you kill even further)
And I really do not have the stash space for way stones. I drop way more than I can afford to keep.

I am not sure that those "+1 tier" even works.
I focused entirely on maximum monsters on map + quantity with the occasional +1 node.
And I cannot even collect all the maps now.
(Throwing away all the "burining grounds" kek...)

I had sustain issues initially as I didn't have any atlas points and found the early tiers easy so was combining and buying them off the vendor to jump ahead. Ran into big issues around t8-t10, but as I completed the quests and unlocked more points I found it fine.
I have a stash full of t15s and vendor plenty with bad mods (i.e. gold).
The main issue I've observed from this thread and others is people not spending currency to upgrade their maps, going basic magic ones, not using regals or even exalts to improve the maps and thus the waystone drop chance.
Again a common thread with feedback is people not engaging with the games systems and then complaining when it doesn't work out.

I get it, some people have a ton of T15's. But if a white 15 is selling for 10-15 Ex don't you think its a problem? There is a hump that some players cant make it past.
It may be a skill issue, as I have died repeatedly losing waystones, but if I can't engage with the content, how am I supposed to improve?
I have been playing ARPG's since Diablo I on AOL dial up, I am ok with death penalties, I am ok with high difficulty, I am ok with item(waystone) rarity.
But when you only have one endgame experience and you combine, low waystone drop rate, with high difficulty (random white mob 1 shots), and extreme death penalties (XP loss, Waystone loss, Map mod loss), its not a fun experience for people trying to get better at the game.
My suggestion remove one of these three factors.
Having to spend my T11's to path to a boss, then run it with a T15 praying I don't die to some random effect that I can't see because of in game visual clutter is just frustrating.
At this point I feel like the people who are against some sort of change are just trolling.

No, 300 is a pretty normal role. The suffixes are where waystone chance comes from, worse the mod (suffix are all negative things) the bigger the bonus it gives. If it has 3 suffixes it's likely around 300%.
If you corrupt there is a chance it goes all suffixes, those can get 500-600 rarity base.
