Player based will leave and this game will die out if they don't remove the XP Penalty

"
"

Their stance regarding EXP-loss is that they want to keep it BUT adjust things around it like "stuff you die to" the "progress you do in general" etc. so YOU don't get punished from multiple sides all the time and overall don't die too "stupid things".
The discussion problem atm is that they implemented punishments like "1 death per map" and things in combination with that are something they want to look into.

It sounds like they are leaning towards keeping it but aren't set in stone on XP loss (and more firm on one map per death). Thank you for your honesty by posting that.

Like I said, personally I like the "1 death per portal", but fully understand why many ppl don't and even have a solution to that problem I will include in my next feedback post, but them holding on to the exp loss is not out of "we purely want to punish ppl" - for that - they nerf Warrior, always.

I love these titles. They sound like a silly attempt at blackmailing.

No, players will not leave and the game will not die just because GGG don't do as you demand. PoE is the most successful diablolike ARPG franchise in history and it always had XP penalty despite some people always complaining about it.

yeah its like the emotional "if you don't do what I want" lashing out that kids try to use to manipulate parents. But POE's playerbase is like 18-40 year olds.

Which says something about parenting these days I suppose. Most kids find out that this shit doesn't work when they're 8 or something. If they're posting it on forums that means they never found out.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

Something tells me far fewer people would quit over lack of punishment versus people who quit for feeling it's too much.

Well it's just your feelings. I'd certainly at least consider quitting.

And I fail entirely to see how any change to softcore genuinely impacts hardcore. Maybe you have some room to argue if they introduced a proper dedicated SSF with good drop rates against the trade league, but adjusting death penalties on softcore won't impact hardcore at all.

People will start to reach level 100 much faster with much squishier characters and GGG will have to try and slow down their progress, and historically GGGs way of dealing with the problem has been introducing more unavoidable damage, which will be introduced to every league.

If GGG were to introduce a new "easy" mode without a ladder and kept standard as it is i'd be ok with it.

The game won't die but they will lose a lot of players who have money like myself.

Look, I grew up on Lineage 2 and other "hardcore" shit when I had no life and derived my self worth and esteem off that. So I get it.

But that was 20 years ago. I have a family, a job, and other hobbies now.

I do not want to lose "time" on this game. When I did "no life" this game, back in December with a small group, we all quit after 2 weeks. All of us had different levels of frustration with me being the most vocal:

I died countless times to stupid shit, losing hours of progress and maps.
I got scammed a divine, which was around 8 hours of grinding.

And what did I get out of it? Some fun memory with my friends.....which we could've had playing Monster Hunter, hanging out in real life, or anything else.

We can argue everything is a waste of time, but thinking back to playing PoE2, it feels fucking bad. Between the community being a circle jerk of whatever we were 20 years ago, and the "hur dur hardcore hur hur dur dur" crap, it just isn't for me at this point and many others.

But for the ones who want to be whatever we were 20 years ago, this game will be for them. And I will use the community and game as a reminder for "thank god I've grown up" when times are too hard.

I suggest you do the same as I doubt this shit will change.

If you don't want to lose "time" on this game, when this crap isn't something for you, when your experience wasn't great, when you could do better things, why are you here?
Like... honestly why?

It's not the exp penalty.

It's wasted time.

UI wastes my time.
Selling items wastes my time
Using maps wastes my time
go through my inventory wastes my time
taking trash back to town to break down into garbage, wastes my time
tials of suckmyass, wastes my time

Then and only then the cherry on top.

You died , lose 3 hours of your time.
Then you ask yourself.

What did I get today for this 4-5 hours.
NOTHING, not a thing.

Not a drop, no gear, no item progression, no skill tree progression.
and got NEGATIVE exp gain for the day.

You realize, hey if i didn't login, id be stronger.
was it fun ?.... parts.

You could have cleaned the house.
You could have washed the cars.
Cut the lawn.

You could be sitting back enjoying that life progression.
If GGG cant compete with the satisfaction of cleaning a toilet.
They have work to do

Because this community is incredibly hostile, and brings me back to what I was 20 years ago. This type of community doesn't really exist anymore

D4 community is mostly nice because it's people who've been playing since D1, have kids now, and get it. Hell, I'm playing D4 right now.

This game, on the other hand, has the same vibe as when I was an overweight, virgin, loser with nothing going for them and deriving all my self worth off video games.

Some days, like today, can be stressful due to work. And I get energized from interacting, remembering why I clawed out of that (20 years is a long time.)

TL;DR: To remind myself: I could've been like some of this trash (not everyone here's trash obviously), to bask in the hatred, it's cathartic.

See, this guy's not trash. He gets it.

This isn't like weight lifting or motorsports where you will learn from your fuck up. We literally die to random shit and bugs lol

Be realistic.....this shouldn't really happen to any player. Not a single one.
If you find nothing in 4-5 hours....you are not playing the game. If you don't make any kind of "progress" in 4-5 hours, you are not playing the game. You MAY end up negative exp for a session, but wow how little that matters. And you are by no means "weaker" because of exp loss.

Also, everything about playing a game is about "using your time". You aren't watching a movie (which even that....wastes your time). If you don't want to DO anything in a game......play an idle game that plays for you.
Starting anew....with PoE 2

The player half-life for this game is about 26 days. So far...
If it continues this way I predict peak players at about 20k by June. Then who knows might become niche gamer game, or abandonware.

Or they announce next big update for June with new classes etc. And then ride the wave for another 4-6 months again.

Well all arpgs follow this kind of life-cycle, a new league or expansion comes out, everybody has fun with it and then moves to other stuff. Since we arpg players have been given some choices lately with poe2, poe1, last epoch, d4 and others, even hopping between those titles and playing their leagues is a viable thing to do.
XP penalty is not the problem.

Problem is GGG's stubborn stance on making the game punishing through BS mechanics like volatile plants and overtuned monster damage.

My 87 warrior died once again locked into an animation laying down some Earthshatter, while ****ING volatile plants spawn right on top of me, so they immediately pop of course and all this happens in like half a second.

XP Penalty is a GOOD thing. But it only makes sense of you design a game that is fair and fun. GGG is stuck on the "Fair" part they dont want to make the game simply fun.

Sometime earlier today I got a rare Gargoyle style monster. It was moving kinda slow, tracking me, I had time to read its mods, the slower pace was SO MUCH more enjoyable. But most of the time it feels like all creatures are on speed/crack/meth, not to mention if the rare don't have a specific aura often times you can only tell after you are almost dead from a massive damage.

With all that said, losing mods on a map is lame AF, on top of losing the Waystone itself. For builds that don't sustain easily it's like a double slap.
