Hard crashing PC locks up

Same here since Windows 11 24H2

What helped me was the following: You need to manually set the virtual memory. I set the minimum to 4096 MB and the maximum to 32768 MB, which uses my system SSD as virtual RAM.

This was previously managed by the system and was set to around 2094 MB or so. I assume that the paging file is larger and that the system does not adjust the size in time or at all.

To do this, press Windows key + R and type sysdm.cpl. In the Advanced tab, select the first section. Then, again under the Advanced tab, you can set the virtual memory. You can give it a try; this has currently solved the problem for me.

Thanks for posting, this also worked for me. I had a ~4h session yesterday and didn't crash once. When loading, sometimes seems like it would crash (the cogs kinda stop spinning) but then it loads the game.

I'm running 24H2, Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB ram, 2070 Super.

Try this if you guys haven't yet

Cross-posting this because it seems relevant. Increasing page file size is helping me, as described in this post.
I've had some really good success with changing the page file size. It's hard to explain so I recorded a short video where you can compare with your loading times and overall stability when changing zones.

Has anyone tried messing around with page file size? I have a very limited amount of RAM (16GB) and I added a second Windows-managed page file on a SSD separate from my C: SSD. In-game loading performance did improve considerably and it hasn't crashed yet, but it's only been about 30 minutes. The game loads the next zone much faster. That makes me wonder if memory limitations and simply how long it takes to load a zone might play a factor. The longer it takes, the more likely it might be to crash (?).

I'll post again after a few consistent hours of play/loading.

Both of my PC (One with i7 13620H and 4060, the other is 7800X3D with 3060Ti) have 32GB of Ram and it still crashes while loading maps. I am not really sure if this is a Memory problem or not.
I have a Ryzen 7 7700

Have had to hard restart my PC about 5-6 times through my 55 hours of playtime so far.

(Spoiler below to describe what happened to initiate the crash includes pieces of act 3 info)
Spoiler
I had gone from the temple area in act 3, just about to battle the woman who uses poison, fire, and electric attacks while being surrounded by the people with shields in spears. It's the boss fight after traveling to the past with Alva? It was going to be my 4th or 5th attempt, and decided to portal back to town real quick to try out a different gem and resistance set up.
But the portal back to town is what initiated the crash...as well as after restarting my PC (since the game froze up my whole system and couldn't move anything on the screen/force quit the application) my PC booted up with a blue screen that was asking for my bitlocker code/key. After this experience I'm afraid to play more.

The amount of physical RAM and how well POE2 utilizes that RAM are two separate concerns, to be fair.

The exact parameters used by autochk on startup are not explicitly stated by Microsoft. Basically Windows runs autochk, not chkdsk on the partition with Dirty Bit set on (BootExecute string value) at boot sequence. And autochk skips

stage. The OS will do the same as chkdsk /f even without user request. If you think it will cause the mess after probable physical damage (that wasn't my case), ask Microsoft to change behaviour of autochk.

Now go away from this thread. I don't need such users who don't understand how serious the problem is and think GGG is to blame for everything just because the latest thing they saw on the display was loadscreen.

Hey dudes rather than wave around your chk-dhk please go /f the off switch and leave this thread to the adults who are trying to figure out how to play the game.

I have 64gb ram and crash loading. To make sure I tested my ram with windows memory diagnostic and memtest86 and passed both with no problems. Before I bought my ram I also checked motherboard approved ram vendors.
I play all the latest games with no problems. Poe2 is the only game I crash.

9800x3d stock latest AMD chipset drivers
X870E Taichi latest bios
Rtx4090 latest drivers
64gb ram ddr5 6000 xmp
Ssd
Win 11 up to date

Game is crashing at almost every single loading screen post patch. Literally unplayable. The only solution is to use CPU affinity and ending the poe2 process.

5800x
3080TI
Windows 11 24H2
Dropping by to say that I was experiencing heavy freezing needing hard reboots and the only thing that stopped them for good is the following for my specific PC:

SPECS -
Win 11 24H2
Ryzen 7 7700x
RTX 4080
MSI MAG Tomahawk x670e
32gb ram (currently non-Expo bc this game freaks me out)

1. In BIOS I set the TDP for CPU to 65w (from 105w)
2. In BIOS Disabled integrated CPU GPU (not sure this matters)
3. In power plan settings in Windows, set to "Power Saver" - this matters! Don't use Balanced or High Performance...
4. Under the advanced settings for the power plan, set the max processor state to 95%, not 100%.
* Did not find that turning off cores, using BES, or anything else did anything.

IN GAME:
Gonna vary per hardware, personally using DLSS on Balanced to handle the performance hit from Power Plan, but can consistently play at 120fps on maps, smooth, with drops to about 60-70fps in towns (not really an issue). Keep multithreading on.

I went from having consistent freezing and 90c temp spikes on the CPU when loading, to having 50c CPU temps on loading and no freezing at all. I set this up three days ago, and have been playing for about 5-6 hours a day since with no crashing or any hiccups at all.

It sucks, I don't understand it. I don't like it. But I have peace of mind.

This also works for my 5800x/3080 system, but that targets 60fps. Not sure of the impact on lower hardware.
