POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen
|
Rolling back to 23H2 or running PoEUncrasher is not the fix. The fact that people keep parroting this is wild.
Normalizing downgrading your operating system or using sketchy 3rd party executables to jerry rig your system to run this unoptimized game is not the answer. If people want to risk bricking their PCs to do this, by all means please do so -- especially because these 'fixes' don't work 100% of the time. But discounting this issue as anything but dire is intellectually dishonest. Imagine if Diablo 4 had an issue like this at launch. This company gets a pass because the amount of glazing they get is unhinged. It is a great game, but the response on this issue speaks volumes. Last edited by GitGudEZ#3382 on Jan 8, 2025, 1:34:06 AM

I also downgraded to 23H, it seemed to fix the issue at first but after a while crashes are back and much more frequent than before.
I crashed/freezed more than 10 times in a few hours |

2 weeks ago, I was also having regular game freezes on loading screens about 3 times per hour of play that would in turn require multiple log in to resolve, as I would freeze again on login loading screen/character loading screen/waypoint loading/2-3 steps after waypoint. It doesn't lead to a hard crash.
Before that I've tried most of the recommendations that don't involve BIOS update and BES limiter. Such as clearing shader cache, turning off cores, setting priority on task manager, bought a laptop fan stand, reinstalled but those didn't work. (Clearing shader cache at least smooths out the login loading screen) After some patches/hotfixes in relation to crash fixes and getting annoyed with the persistent game freezes. I tried the following and it somehow worked. I deleted the configuration dump file in the Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2. Clear shader cache (again). Also in Windows Setting>Graphics Settings>Graphic Performance Setting and find POE2, setting it to High Performance. Started the game. All settings in game reset to default (including keybinds) and didn't freeze (and looked amazing). Pressed F1 to look at the graphs and the VRAM looks like a reasonable number. Re-do all the performance related option setting changes like capping fps etc. (Noticed it defaulted to DX12, when I was freezing hard when I manually set to DX12 previously). Also played around with some settings on Nvidia control panel after that. Mostly setting them as app controlled. I'm using a Gigabyte A7X1 laptop, no mods: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 16GB RAM Win 10 Home 22H2 I suspected this is because I play Poe1 on Steam client. When I purchased the EA late and they ran out of Steam Keys, support suggested that I play on standalone. I played with game freezes on standalone, then moved to steam client and this led to duplicate files that needed to be manually cleaned up. Hope this helps someone. |

Experienced this freeze now for the first time after upgrading my hardware. Played for 70 hours withuot a freeze with my old i5-12600k CPU, after upgrading to a 9800X3D I've gotten more lagging just after entering a map and now recently a complete CPU freeze where I had to hard reboot. Same 4070 rtx graphic card as before so not the issue.
