I can't say it often enough, again and again:
THERE IS NOW WORKING FIX, BESIDES POEUNCRASHER
So don't follow ANY advice given here, its 100% snakeoil and in the end it will most likely do more bad than good.
Its sad that Freezing Gear Games is letting this 400+ pages of misinformation running rampart, potentially making it worse for their customers when they listen to ill informed advice.
again:
THERE IS NOW WORKING FIX
except a lot of ppl did stop the crashes for now with a rollback to 23h2, its not the same problem for everyone so your repeating misleading things.
Rollback itself does not fix the issue. Something you do during rollback sometimes do delay or prevent the occurrence of the hard crashes but in itself rollbacks have been proven to not work.
In addition, Microsoft is very (and alarmingly) adamant about updating to Windows 11 24H2; meaning that rolling back is not advisable. Soon it would not be even possible. We will never know it for sure (unless they declare it after it is no longer a security risk) but I think there is some nasty but thankfully not yet discovered by malicious actors vulnerability on Windows 11 23H2, which given how bad Windows 11 is, would not surprise me.
Similarly we cannot know what is going on GGG's end.
As GGG's paying customers GGG should have been communicating with us, but they are not.
Dear GGG, Enough is enough.
We-as paying customers- have the right to know:
1) What went wrong?
2) What you are doing to fix it?
3) What possible causes have you eliminated as the source of the problem?
4) What triggers have you discovered that starts the resource hog loop other than "zone change"? (This one is really important because it allows players to create workarounds)
5) What is your estimated time of fix?
6) How did this sort of bug managed to avoid detection in your testing period?
7) What you will be doing to compensate players that have been affected by this issue?
8) Whether refunds would be made available for those that are no longer interested in playing the game?
To other paying customers like me who have spent their money on this faulty product:
As long as GGG is not interested in open communication our only other option is to increase the pressure and warn others by giving a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam in a detailed and informative manner.
sorry, but, no, on 23h2, i have had 0 crashes on 24h2 i have them sometimes hourly.
the issue started before poe2 even launched in poe1, exactly the same freeze on the same conditions, rolling back stopped the crashes outright for me and many others, so for some ppl, this is still a valid solution.

i have to test this to see if the game would be able to create a crash file during the freeze or nothing at all, because in the loading freeze is not really a complete PC lock you can still can move your mouse (really sluggish) and num lock light on keyboard would react (really slow too) you just can't close the game or alt-tab or even open task manager that's why you have to hard reset.
reading around sites, i have frequently read that this freeze type, where sound will either loop or keep playing normally and the mouse still moves but otherwise your frozen with no way out but a reset is typically caused by a resource conflict violation. its hard to quantify things cuz well you know, no logs, but, watching twitch or YouTube on a second monitor increases the likelihood a freeze will occur {at least seemingly), specifically with hardware acceleration off. when it first started occurring in poe 1 before poe 2 launched but after a small patch along with 24h2 for me, the first thing i thought it was was my browser having a mem leak or the GPU shitting itself,so i turned off HW acceleration it was the first thing i tried that did make some difference. but who knows, but i stand strongly that this is not just a poe1/2 thing entirely there is something else, just that poe for whatever reason is really good at hitting the issue.
the most annoying thing is that there is no error log, no memory dump, it cant do it while frozen even in this type, i tried 3rd party tools even to get a log of anything to generate but i juts couldn't get anything, except for 2 occasions where the game itself froze and then closed exception code in kernelbase.dll 0xe0000001, so its so difficult to diagnose and the only things I've caught happening are live things right before, if i was watching close enough, such as procmon showing unpacking errors for shaders, or that before the load screen it would freeze both poe 1 and 2 would feel 'sluggish' and i would say to housemate, watch its about to freeze, hit the portal bam frozen. i sat with a full screen of every sensor on a second monitor with hwinfo, no temp was over 70, ram barely 50%, GPU at 70 98% use, CPU sitting comfy, but the freeze in game, always had a maxed drive (nvme) read rate, maxed CPU, maxed shaders processing, but, poe has always done that during a load, nothing looks different.
I honestly thought it was my pc dieing until i tried in 22h2 win10 to work perfectly but taking the upgrade back to 24h2 to see if it starts again. was instant first load. Ive clean installed after null bit wipe of all drives with 0 overclocks on anything and a brand new flashed bios, memtest left running overnight, drive checks, , prime 95 full torture test, cpu sits comfy at 75 no freeze through any of that, there is a singular fault, a usb for the yeti mic shows a fault, the usb is loose from getting knocked on the boom arm, still functions but there is a small fault, so removed it and did all of it again just to be sure. i have even done an install of windows with near everything except what you need to run the game stripped out of it, still crashes.

Yes... we know its the POE engine... both 1 AND 2... And we should ALL know GGG is responsible for CODING the ENGINE to work for both past and MODERN CPUs.
Basically - this is what you get for a SINGLE A team that went on a vacation while big part of their players, paying up to 500 DOLLARS sat with hard crashes.
We all know its the POE engine...

Regretfully I just have to be done with the game due to this issue. Used the PoEUncrasher successfully for a month and this last week have seen 2 hard crashes requiring a reset even with the Uncrasher active. I just have to be done. I got 75 hours out of the game and I can’t risk my hardware anymore 9800X3D 4080Super. absolutely abhorrent that there isn’t a fix yet and we are pushing two months. Unbelievable and extremely frustrating. At this rate I just don’t ever expect this to be fixed. If they even gave one single shit they would have a dedicated thread that’s locked just offering any shred of transparency to those of us who deal with this issue. But no, we get less than what Activision, Ubisoft, Bungie, etc would do in the same situation and GGG catches no flak and here we are just shouting into the forum for 2 months getting no where.
And it just honestly makes me so sad because this game is so good and I could sink such an ungodly amount of time into the game but I just can’t use third party software made by some random in the community and sit there having anxiety about whether or not the next loading screen will be the end of my pc. 75 hours and it feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface. Just disgusting. Can’t believe how horrible this has been handled from a coding standpoint as well as a communication standpoint.
I’m sick of seeing it in the known issues thread. Just take it off cause it’s never getting fixed.

I looked at event viewer, and saw error codes indicating a memory leak. Checked my min/max swap file size and saw it was set to 4gb for some reason. Properly adjusted it for a 16gb installed ram setup and the issues largely went away since then. Just a thought. Event viewer shows many things.

No no no it can't be happening on Linux because it's only a Windows issue and only 24H2? Haven't you been listening to the shills?
Beats me dude. I cleared out an SSD, created a dual-boot to Linux and the crashing has stopped. I'm going on a week straight now of zero issues with the native Linux install of PoE2 through steam.
I can even play PoE1 again with Proton and there's still no freezing.
The moment I boot to Windows 11 and try? Full system freezing again.
Y'all can say it doesn't work all you want, it did for me.

So what? A bunch of different tricks worked for a bunch of different people. Until GGG provides a verified, universal solution then every other suggestion is just noise in the system and covering for their slow, unresponsive behinds.

In my case I solved the issue doing the following:
Press Window key and type "configuration". Inside search for "System -> Display -> Graphics".
Check if there's a POE entry, then delete it. In my case it got added and as others mentioned, due to being marked as "High priority", it was freezing the computer on loading screens.
After that I've played for 5h without any other crash.
