POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen
|
Issue still ongoing. I can actually log in further and get to a map, but I crash soon after when switching to a new location.

To the people still having it, now is probably the best time to resend a dxdiag, and also have the error report command activated (if that thing even works due to freezes). Also refer the issue as "freeze", not "crash" to avoid possible confusion.
Here's hoping everyone get to play without trouble soon. |

" People on the internet are very ignorant and lack knowledge. All I see is people saying, "The problem is your PC, it's this, it's that," which is ridiculous. Understand this: My PC has no issues with any game except PoE 2. No overheating, no installation problems, nothing. I've been using PCs for 30+ years and understand more than 99% of the people reading this. The problem is with the game, specifically for those using an X3D CPU and the latest version of Windows. They recently disabled some feature, which stopped the complete system freeze issue, but performance has dropped drastically. Before the patch, the only way I could play was by disabling multithreading before entering a portal and enabling it again afterward. My FPS was always 200+, but if I didn’t disable multithreading before going through a portal, it would instantly freeze the system. Now, it doesn’t freeze anymore, but FPS drops to sub 60, which is absolutely ridiculous. Last edited by SkyHak#2661 on Feb 6, 2025, 2:01:24 PM

" I did some more testing and Im still having complete freezes, even with 2 cores disabled for the game. I dont even understand how that is possible, but it appearently is. Whats worse is that I now also have worse performance. The performance was never all that good for me in the game before, but I feel its even worse now. So the patch honestly made things worse for me somehow. I almost wish the game was bad so I could forget about it and move on. But its actually very good. Never had a worse love hate relationship in my life I think. They also removed the issue with the game freeze from the known issues thread and put it under recently fixed. So, I guess GGG now considers this bug fixed?? Why do they remove the issue when they have release a "potential" fix, and ppl still report total freezup of game?? They gave up or what? GGG trying to sweep it under the rug same as they did when this issue was in poe1, shame i can't get my refund, shame i've literally wasted money on something that HARMS my pc by using it.
(should've just bought a virus instead... lol/s) |

Hello guys, I developed a proof of concept to try mitigate this problem. The main idea is to select the process that you want and set a CPU limit to it. If the process reachs that CPU limit it will kill the app. I've being using since i finished develop it, didn't had to hard reboot. It's not beautiful, you have to select your process everytime, but I wanted to test it as quickly as possible and publish to help another ones which are facing the same problem as I'm. Let me know if you have any problem, if helped or not till the problem is fixed. https://github.com/dev-vinicius-andrade/cpu-process-monitor/releases/tag/0.0.1 |

On the other hand... while this patch somehow made the situation worse for me...
I have been playing now non stop for a couple of hours with absolutely no freeze or crash at all when disabling multi-threading before every load screen. Please GGG, if you read this... You are not responding to emails, so, this is pretty much my only chance to reach out. Just add an option in the game to disable multi-threading on load screens. It would solve the issue for the vast majority of players who still experience freezes. I dont even experience a loss in load time. Not a noticable one at least. If you don't want to expose the option in the game settings. Just add a launch option such as --no-multithread-during-load or similar. This is a no brainer low effort fix which would make a lot of ppl really happy. Or at least me. thanks. |

in my case, poe2 loading screen freezes stopped after updating nvidia drivers to 572.16 version

Look, this is discouraging, in addition to the problem with DX12, now it's freezing my computer and restarting it and there are times when it doesn't even restart, it gets stuck trying to try and it won't, it won't go back into WINDOWS, it can't enter Windows again, that's a disappointment, and it only happens with POE2, I've already tested it with other games and that's all it does, I give up, it's not worth the risk of losing the computer because of a game, I knew about early access and I knew it was still in development but This is already too much, I need to resolve this because it's already going beyond the limits, I really like the game, I played a lot while I could, but after the last 2 updates, it's impossible for me.

new development for me.
I've enabled these 2 launch options: --noasync --nopreload I have tried this before but without luck. But these 2 settings along with the new patch might actually have fixed the crashing for me. poeUncrasher reports no unresponsiveness any more and looking at the graph in Process Lasso, the spikes are much shorter and it reports 100% responsiveness during loads. hmm. I will continue testing this for a while. Might be worth a try for anyone who still experience crashes after the patch. |
