POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Nulled.

Intel i7-13700K
NVIDIA 4070Ti Win11 23H2 Driver all latest (572.16) Crashed before, still crashes, and became worse. Several days ago I could manage this crashes by disabling multithreading during loading screens with some occasionally crashes. At some poing it started crashing even with disabled multithreading. Now I can't play at all. Last edited by Satan1142#4096 on Feb 7, 2025, 2:55:42 PM

After the latest update I don't crash in loading screens anymore. However, i for the first time crashed while playing. The moment my friend teleported to me - it froze the whole PC just like the previous issue. And I mean on the second he was teleported to my zone it froze for me.

" Thank you for providing the information. No doubt others have chimed in already. First, yes you have a nice gaming system. Your 7800x3d has 8 cores/16 threads as I recall. The 3d cache helps for the most part but not for every single game. The x3d cache also causes addition limitations in terms of thermal headroom. I recall others pointing out stuttering is very likely CPU related and that POE 1/2 are both super heavy on CPU use. Physics, objects, particles, so forth. While I am sure some additional optimization can be done, I think it would be incorrect to say no level of optimized code already exist. At a guess the POE engine is written in c++ and GGG can most certainly afford an optimizing compiler. Of course adding hand written machine code and tuning loops and what have you also help. A very easy and simple test would be to use the in-game option to try a max FPS of 120, or even 90/60 in the advanced settings. I use 165 myself though only because that is the max refresh rate of my main monitor. This should quite literally lower the work being tasked out to both the CPU and GPU. In any case your max should be set and set to 240 because anything over the refresh rate of your monitor (imo) is wasted electricity and more heat build up with no benefit. Its been a few years since I have had a Team Green GPU (since my 1080 ti) so I dont know the software as it has been changed and updated a bit. Like teams Red and Blue, there should be options for lowering latency and tweaking. Some experimentation might find something that works for you to eliminate or reduce the stuttering. If you are comfortable and knowledgeable about UEFI/Bios (or have a friend that is) checking some of the CPU and Memory tuning settings can help tremendously. Many motherboards have an 'auto-overclock' setting. They will automatically up the cpu frequency, power, or the memory timings might be made more aggressive on the fly. Usually not by much but it can destabilize the system and you'll never find what is triggering it from inside Windows (or whatever OS). For myself I fixed all my POE crashing issues about a month ago by turning off auto overclock. Hopefully something here will help or at least lead in the direction of a solution. In closing there is one place I will need to disagree with the post. I can very much understand the frustration, anger, irritation and need to vent, however, bottom line, you are the one making decisions about playing or not. " Both opening the world map and teleporting with checkpoints have caused freezes for me, this never happened before. I saw some guy further down saying that not even disabling multithread works when it had worked before. I still believe that works for me but thats still scary. hlp |

Want to share my experience in case it is helpful for those who still experience crashes:
I've had very frequent crashes both before and after the latest patch; actually, the latest patch (0.1.1c) seems to have made it worse. The game would crash after about 1–2 hours of playing, mostly when using the portal (but sometimes when opening the passive tree and rarely in other situations). After the game crashed, it would take 10–20 tries before I could start the game again. Most of the time, it would crash after clicking "Play" from the character screen. The cogs would spin for a few seconds, and then the game client would shut down (no PC freeze). I have Windows 24H2 and all the latest drivers and BIOS updates. Intel i9-14900k and RTX 4060. I tried this solution a few days ago and have had no crashes! SOLUTION: REDUCE THE NUMBER OF CORES THE GAME CAN USE TO 8 OR FEWER. Do this from Task Manager -> Details -> right-click on PathOfExile -> Set affinity -> uncheck "All Processors" and check at most eight. The game seems to crash when too many CPU cores are dedicated to it. It also seems that the more cores, the worse the problem gets. |

" I agree we've come far from 24/30 fps to 240+ but let's be honest here, 30fps has never been a standard in video games, it always been minimum 60, even old video game consoles like the NES play their games at 60hz, 30 is not a number you compare with in terms of videogames or even computers. " Thanks for the "fresh news". " As expected and was mentioned many times by me - the problem scope lies behind the OS / driver level [Removed by Support]. At least GGG introduced some workaround, temporarily solution which is good. I believe they're having hard time tracking the issue. For the "workers", this issue MUST be fixed at the OS level to prevent such behaviour in the future or possible abuse from malware. It seems Microsoft engineers are also struggling to understand what's going on. As for the other games they also crash in similar conditions (parallel shader processing): Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, Space Engine but just less common. " Temporal solution, a workaround, sacrificng some performance. " This is not the way modern OS operates. Having limited knowledge leads to wrong conclusions. 100% CPU doesn't mean your PC will freeze. Run any CPU stress test and see it by your own eyes. Ring 0 ALWAYS has priority over anything because of its nature. 100% load at user mode only means you will start to experience performance degradation at user mode with the applications with the same priority Unless they use shared system resources. The one thing I'm sick of seeing is the crashing is being caused by windows 24H2 blah blah blah , I was and still am on windows 23H2 and thanks to the absolute state of the hard crashing cause by this game I had to replace a B550 motherboard , a Ryzen 7 5700X and 32GB of ram. cant get a refund or anything ive been building pcs for years and ive never had a game completely brick components. Even though it is a great game and I was enjoying it before all the issues this isn't something that I cant look past anymore. Not when there are so many other ARPG games I can play without the slightest fear of my pc being at risk.

" I'm on Windows 23h2 and had to re-install windows after a hard crash(didn't have a single one until a week ago) because I was getting a blue screen on boot up. It happened right after the crash and it wasn't one that I had to press the power button, it restarted the computer on it's own then Windows wouldn't boot up. The game engine itself is flawed. They slapped some new graphics on top of an outdated sloppy engine and I don't think they can actually fix it. Last edited by CovidPatientZero#4772 on Feb 7, 2025, 8:39:51 PM
