Trading Is A Very Bad Experience in POE2

yes i read the manifesto, great idea. It just doesn't work that way.
It didn't work out according to the vision in poe1 and is even worse in Poe2.

limiting trade to make the drops feel meaningfull while players are clearly wanting to trade and are having a bad time is not the way. Nowadays we are used to having an AH in pretty much every online game.

The crafting system is not in a good place right now, i found it impossible to craft what i need and resorted to spending hours on the trade site messaging people who are not responding.

It did not make me appreciate a good drop more or incentivize me to go farm bosses. Because getting that 1 drop i need seems impossible and crafting it seems even more impossible resulting in me having a bad time on the website instead of a good time ingame.

you could make drops better resulting in people flooding the market with good drops making me want to trade even more. because now it will be cheaper. (drops do need to be better)

you could make crafting better making people who are good at crafting turn out tons of great stuff and flooding the market with it making me want to trade more. being that the trading currency is the same as crafting materials it makes me not want to gamble. (crafting does need to be better it's full rng atm and its bad unless you have big stacks of orbs)

Or just make an AH so i can get what i need so i can go kill a boss myself. That will drop me other cool stuff i need or i can sell to the next guy that needs it so he can also start playing the game instead of being stuck in trade site limbo.

Getting that "oh damn thats worth like 10 divs, i can sell that and get me some upgrades now" moment feels good and it is how a lot of people are playing the game.

Having to deal with 20 people in a row showing up to your hideout trying to scam you with exalts for it is not a good time.
Just let us trade quickly so we can play and enjoy the game, poe1 console system was also terrible although a lot better than the site.

Also sidenote, why are there no gear upgrades in campaign. Let us choose item type and like 3 of it's mods to ensure people are having a good time. not saying people should be geared up but just enough to ensure a smooth campaign.

You have to leave the game client to play the game, thats a massive flaw.
I've enjoyed it. I like interacting directly with people.

I also have gotten huge upgrades from drops and crafts, and have sold things I found those ways too. Idk how people who are farther than I am can have found less, and the way people talk being at t9 sure feels like I'm way behind the average. Yet I've found this good stuff and found good things trading.

You don't have to.

As with 99% of games right now though, part of the game occurs outside the game. Meta game if you will.

i'd prefer an automated auction house i have some social anxiety towards this (got scammed 20 years ago on d2 when i was a kid and i think i haven't recovered yet) if the price is fixed should be simple give the item to the buyer give the alch orbs or currency to the vendor and that's it.

I used to enjoy social aspects on rpgs but i feel in 2025* people prefer less interaction given the tool exists, bidding and offering made more sense years ago when you had to make banners of your stash or show the stuff in trande window for buyers to evaluate but i feel with a very limited of scenarios you don't need to say a single word with current system and it's too time consuming to resume your gameplay because someone whispers he wants to trade.

I fully agree with an auction house, P2P trading is really bad, scamming, trading request issues, whispering spamming, price check listing is really bad, it took me around 3 weeks to get a proper response for a trade all my gear is farmed after the decision of quitting gearing through trade, this is my first time playing an ARPG I love all of it except trading
So the manifesto basically identifies problems that become more apparent when you make trading easier(ie: correct). Why not address the problems instead of saying "sorry players, just deal with an outdated and frustrating trade model".

Maybe after 7 years of experience since posting that GGG has some sort of idea on how to address the issues? If not, that's on them, not the players. Players today are ready for some QoL improvements. Like getting rid of the well. Things that currently only have a negative impact on the experience, which trading clearly does compared to what could be trading in game.
agreed....

also point out that there is 250 people selling the SAME item (like a uncut skill gem lvl20) ALL listed at the SAME price... so you try to whisper a few people to barter and point out the SUPPLY is over listed at that price... nobody haggles, you get 1 chance to try to counter offer before they just /ignore you. or they dont even read your barter message and just invite, teleport to do trade, then get kicked from party after they read your message.

not to mention with the currency = RL money 3rd party stuff that there is scalpers keeping items from dropping bellow a certain point and controlling the market for many key Late game items. sure thats fun and all but not getting 5 links or 20 skill gems shouldnt be locked behind 5 divine orbs that after 100 hours i have only gotten 2.......

trade helps find gear so we can ignore most of the items dropped in the map because i can never tell if a item for a class i dont play is "good" or just fodder. or if its good if its "divine orb" good or just 1-3 ex good....

i get frustrated wanting to put together builds i see others playing or some guide from a site but can never get enough of the pieces to try anything.

Check out the trade manifesto from Chris 7 years ago.
Sometimes it's easy to say why don't do this why don't do that without ever thinking.

We've read Chris's words before, and the only takeaway continues to be that Chris has no idea what he's talking about, and lacks the ability to form an accurate conclusion about trading systems, and the comparison of having them vs not having them.
Chris is wrong. Plain and simple.

Sounds like you need to go make your own game then?

I agree we need something in-game better, but any sort of straight auction house will lead to worse inflation. Item's will need to get more rare. And then they will also get more expensive. There are multiple sides to this issue.

And any lever you pull to make one thing "Easier or better" is going to make others worse. Unfortunately there is no "perfect" solution.

I think the best would be some sort of way of having an option to browse the market ingame would be a big step in the right direction.

Honestly though, I've never liked trading in ARPG's and have moved to mostly just playing trade league as "SSF with buddies"
