It is not. Our version of PoE 2 can be only accessed through an VPN. It isn't openly available in China due to censorship and some other laws. They have their own version for those reasons.

Worth to mention is that the paid early access version alone gets more steam players into the game than the current highest PoE1, a game that's also f2p by the way and also got up and downs in player numbers each league.

Except that you miss something. POE2 only sold much because of its ancestor, and only because of that. It wouldn't have sold that much if it was launched by another name. From then on, it is to show if poe2 will shape its genre or hit the trash can. If you played the first 3 of Dia series you understand what I mean
DOTH has dropped to 93k players now.

Will drop even further when people reach maps. If you are not a warrior or huntress, good luck when you start a rare map

GGG could have created an entirely different ARPG, something that wasn’t a direct sequel to PoE1, sold it under a different name, and people would have still jumped on it, mainly because it’s a product made by GGG.

In all fairness, unlike some other companies, GGG sticked to its target audience and didn’t ruin the game by watering down its core elements. Sure, some may dislike the "more punishing" and "harsher" environment of the game, but it's also one of the aspects that most active players appreciate over other games on the market. Not many people seek instant gratification, and in this regard, GGG has kept the game true to its roots over the years, and we can see the same habit in their second game as well.

I mean what other options do we have? D4, Last Epoch, Grim Dawn? All niche games, just like PoE, but they also got their own target audience in different ways despite being also just a arpg hack&slay game.

As a result, the target audience would have likely shown interest in any other game made by the company. Just look at what happened to Final Fantasy XIV, where a well-running game became disliked by many after the company made a complete 180 turn and watered down the game’s complexity.

Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

i bet you it will… or would. im this person who never played in poe 1 and never will. Wasd system and dodgeroll brought me here. good graphic, “soulslikeish” and understandable gem system - all what i liked here…before 0.2.0 came out and made mistake what makes ALL garbage simulators of “souls” - they boosted hp of mobes and made you hit like 10 damage per second. It’s not even close what called as “souls like” - its sluggish and bad designed game, that it. The true souls is fair, mobs can kill you by few hits as you. You will never spend like 15 hits per mob. It’s no way closer to difficult, it’s just boredom.

GGG just threw to trash this game by lazy programming and lack of testing. I’ve droped 0.2.0 after 3 locations, but i spent 1000 hours in 0.1.0 and made 6-7 non meta builds by my own. now this builds are dead. As 99% of skills because aa is better than them.
