Is PoE2 even PoE?
|
Fun fact: POE2 is indeed POE1 - the code is nearly completely copy paste.
You had the same bugs, you have the same items. You had the Map-Quality-Item in last League on POE2 :'D They did NOT overhaul the complete backend - and that will be a mistake ! Trust me, as a programmer you dont want to copy&paste a backend to "overhaul" the complete ui and adding a patch with some new features. POE2 is just POE1 with some patches on the feature side. It IS POE1... But on the gameplay part: POE2 in the current state sucks hard. Even friends of mine... Those who played POE2 first and then I persuaded to try POE1 say that they can never play POE2 again... They thought POE2 was great, then played POE1, and now they just think POE2 is crap. The "Vision" of Jonathan is the biggest BULLSHIT... He wants a "No Risk for the wicked" ... a full Story-campaign ARPG adventure with soulslike combat. There is no meaningful loot in NRFTW -> Also its in POE2 There is "many crafting potential" in NRFTW -> "Also" in POE2... bad but you can use it. The combat is soulslike - like in POE2.... And more... BUT: No risk for the wicked is a GOOD GAME ... POE2 is not. :'D Hopefully POE2 will be a POE1 in maybe 5-6 years... with a new good balance team and not like the current ... they should be fired to create skills and bury them alive before league-launch (im looking at you kinetic rain) |

Honestly? I gave POE2 a few shots but I always lose any will to play before I reach maps (post 0.1).
So after arguing here for a while, I just give up and don't touch it anymore. It is better that way, and is less stressful, because why should I be upset about a game I don't even play? Last edited by Everything_is_taken#0515 on Jan 27, 2026, 10:05:48 AM

I wish i could join their dev team...
I swear ... The current issue is a lack of objectives and a well scaled difficulty path to get there. In PoE1 there is the atalas which give a project to work toward and complete. There are layers to it and you are climbing toward a goal . In PoE2 there is no goal. The campaign could be the goal and if so then we are misinterpreting the game and it ends and campaign end... but that is obviously not the case. So the End game is now a random walk , until the citadels . The way to get there is just buy the gear from the market and walk in a random direction. Doesn't put the A in ARPG ... There is a deficit of lore in the game , i know odd thing to say... but the lore is needed to drive a game play loop. This Atziri's temple is a waste of lore. Instead.. Atziri is the pinnacle of a pyramid of foes you must kill to reach her. The foes are the Priests of Atziri , each with a backstory , each unique . You need to get to her. Now take the concept of the temple where you are building the rooms. Change room to Zone . Make the Zones influenced by a priest ... Clear priest influenced maps until a tipping point and challenge the priest. Not all priests need to be killed , thats part of the game , picking the path. Priests drop class specific gear related to their powers . That is just an example of expanding the outside Atlas , the "Temple" would have been an outside Island or continent , where you find and place whole zones... and when done you have created your own custom farming area of maps ... and ..... season ends... start again ... new class .. new priests .. new experience.. and it becomes a permanent exterior zone to find and begin the building of the "Aztiri" Continent... as new content is added .. it is added outside .. until .. over time .. it will be huge ... and impossible to do it all in one season ... But it needs lore support to make it intersting and to drive loops of play. Last edited by LewtDeezNuts#1011 on Jan 27, 2026, 12:08:40 PM

" Common human trap: being good at consuming something feels like it should translate into being good at creating it. Especially in games like PoE, players spend thousands of hours learning about systems and builds and forming strong opinions. While I don't want to say that that expertise isn't real, it's only one slice of what actual game design requires. If you catch yourself typing something like what I quoted ever again, I urge you to look into what the difference in skill sets required are between gaming and designing. Don't know anything about your qualifications, but the job is far more complex than you give it credit for. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

I write software...
I have the first edition of Monster Manual. Im qualified. Depth of lore opens gameplay options. Gives content creators stuff to do for free advertising. Part of the Elden Ring success story was the lore. I dont care how they project manage, Git their code or code review and mergers. I want fun, challenging and rewarding. My view is exactly what they need to hear. I can feel the fear of the multipliers when i play. I can see the rationale for capped health. Too much math ... not enough fun. They blew 2 major lore potentials ... Kilandra Atziri These should have had significant lore, You want to make Iconic characters .. Things you buy on your coffee mug .. People you want to see in a cut scene ... Brand... And make a fun dynamic ladder of foes. with a dynamic path to victory specific to the class the player chose. I dunno sounds like i know what works... Without a progression ladder .. you are stuck doing what players are now... bean counting divs. I offered a way to reuse existing assets , and apply them in a familiar way to expand a indoor temple , to an outdoor continent building endeavor and provide an arena for bragging rights . What do you have to offer ? Last edited by LewtDeezNuts#1011 on Jan 27, 2026, 12:33:26 PM

You can be a fantastic game designer without having any programming skills.
Owning a manual does not equate to being able to create things for a video game, unless you meant to say you'll just copy whatever's in the book (in which case: good luck). But if you are feeling your calling there, apply at GGG and see what happens! Sky's the limit The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
