How does GGG plan to make money?
I wouldn't mind a "retail edition" that provided unique skins for the classes and maybe a few social pets and such. Maybe unique colored names or anything aesthetic to set apart but not affect gameplay.

How they make money? Duh!
They open a sheep farm to fund PoE of course! |

If server renting is possible, that alone will bring in a ton of cash. Thats purely how TF2 is ran and they obtain enough to be convinced to continuously make new patches.

I don't really think their main intrest of this is making money, I think they are using this cuz they know it will attract a lot of players, and in that way they will get a huge step into the gaming buisness.
But they will make money of their ingame store once it's added, and maybe theyll get sponsors etc. "I'm in the beta AND the Diablo III beta? Well how about that. WAIT? I'M IN THE BETAS??? BOYA!"

Probably there will be items like buffs you could buy - maybe something like XP Boost etc

" totally agree +1 Plus they will be making money through, well i dont remember exactly what they said but players will be able to create their own league with specific regulations set by the maker, if it was like $15 bucks to make a league i would prob do it.. if you have ever played wow (within the last year) you spent over $70 for the game itself, $15 dollars a month, not to mention if your server goes dead, another $25 to switch servers.. i mean, wtf is $15 or $20 even. |

" They seem to be going down the right path with what I have heard about how they'll make their cash. I'm among the many of peeps that really dislike "Buy 2 Win". I hope they never do that style of micro-transactions, or else they might as well be on the way to their own "path of exile", ha! |

Maybe they will make so as well as being able to create leagues for money, they will host leagues that take a certain fee (2 dollars?) to enter?
