I'm not sure. If this game gets really popular, will micro-transactions that give you no in-game benifit really support the further development, server expanding, server management and upcoming game development epenses? I'm very doubtful of this. For the same reason, I doubt GW2 sustainability, even though they charge for the game, they charge nothing more after that, so they really don't gain anything by keeping the players for a longer time, which will impact development of more content. Why should a game like GW2 satisfy players for more than a few months anyway? They won't give you more money until an expansion comes anyway.
Let me be clear on this though, I like the idea of not having to pay for the game and not having a monthly fee and all that, but I don't really see how it's gonna help the game in the long run. Imagine if a lot more ppl start playing PoE then expected - the servers won't hold for it. Where's the money gonna come from to get more servers? Who's gonna pay the upkeet? I'd think the game should be purchased, then the micro-transactions. Either that or just monthly fees, but a free week or two upon creating an account and downloading the game. Whatever you end up making money on, I just hope you make enough to do really really good games and keep em coming. IGN: Naforce

Stuff like respeccing skills and extra character slots always sells.
hopefully there wont be "super member" subscriptions with exclusive content, +xp% and all that pay2win shit some f2p games have. though i wouldnt mind exclusive early access to content for a small payment, i might not buy it myself, but as long as i'd get to play it in the end, i wouldnt mind it being a paid customers exclusive to begin with. | |
you never know people might buy ads ingame, like a rock with a dell logo, or 1 of the shops is renamed wall-mart.

Cosmetic items, maybe inventory slots, character slots? I don't know but I don't think micro transactions will be used to buy power like in Nexon games.

Most games charge for cosmetics, name changes, possibly even respecs or character slots. If they decide to add character customisation then they could sell character redesign. I highly doubt that the items sold will give a player an advantage over others.
However, like other people have said, perhaps this is a gateway game to greater things. Perhaps purchasing things such as cosmetics should be seen as less of buying them for your own personal want, but more as a donation to GGG to develop more games and maintain this game. |

If you watch TotalBiscuits video, he has some ideas on some of the stuff that GGG might sell in game to get money. Hopefully not game busting things which separate the free2plays and the people who buy things but just little perks, like increased drop rates and exp boosts.
There's obviously gonna be some cosmetic things you can buy, I don't mind them but what will probably annoy me most is respeccs. If its like 50p then I don't mind but £5 and over will annoy me. Everything else I don't really care about... Last edited by Napox97#1376 on Sep 6, 2011, 12:09:57 PM

I hear they will make money by sneaking into your house while you're busy playing and stealing your children. You won't notice because you'll be having too much fun.
I mean, I don't really want my kids (GirlRedRod and McGuyver) to end up working in an iPad sweatshop or coal mine. But then again, how am I going to stop those evil geniuses? I'm just one woman. A single mother with her mind on her money and her money on her mind. |

Hopefully they keep the game fair for players that don't pay, and only sell cosmetic and convenience items. I've seen a few games drift slowly into pay2win mode, where you basically have to shell out a ton of cash to stay competitive.
