Maven memory game feels stupid

Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short-term memory. This idea was put forward by Miller (1956) and he called it the magic number 7. He though that short term memory could hold 7 (plus or minus 2 items) because it only had a certain number of “slots” in which items could be stored. Last phase Maven memory game sequence is 7 if i am not wrong. So can't blame GGG for that one.

I personally comfortably remember 4 elements, but that's on me.

You cannot conclude anything from this article regarding this topic.

1) 7 is the average - can be even 20.
2) Completely different tests - one is a simple query, shortly after perception; Maven's memory game works on multiple queries and increments of one which is much easier to remember because you've experienced the previous configurations already multiple times.
3) Players have to perform Maven's game during a cognitive overload
4) This is a skill which can be very easily trained and is prevalent in games

Considering already these few factors, the number 7 and any number based on the information you have presented is essentially meaningless.

I very much dislike psychology exercised like you have because it tries to disguise itself as being scientific and researched but in reality it's inadequate with wrong conclusions made on hasty premises.

1) 7+-2 is average - my whole point was that GGG aimed the difficulty at the average, if it were 10 elements, i too, would be disgruntled. And no, it cannot be 20, later research (Cowan) showed that even 4+-2 is often too optimistic. Supposedly autistic savants could count a much larger number of elements at a glance (the idea being, that if one glances at a number withing the limits of STM, one can tell the count without actually needing to count.).
2) So if, in your opinion, Maven's game is easier than a common short term memory test, you are in fact agreeing with my opinion - that they did not tone the difficulty for people with better than average memory.
3) About this I agree. How Miller's law is affected by splitting attention I am not sure about, but its common sense that memorizing while being distracted is harder.
4) Again, yes. But that is you agreeing with me again.

Considering already these few factors, the number 7 and any number based on the information you have presented is essentially meaningless. - Statistics doesnt tell you what the limit of Jon's STM, a white male of x age with y, z characteristics, is; it tells you that n% of white males of x age with y,z characteristics have a certain STM limit.

Psychology is a work in progress, all too reliant on the development of neuroscience and technology in general. While not a hard science, its not astrology or divination either. And it is what is used to inform game design and marketing, so... :)
If you guys intend on leaving the trash mechanic everyone refers to as the memory game it needs to be more visible. I prefer it was totally wiped from the game but we all know that will never happen. Sirus is still flying into storms to this day.

Omega lul on the mechanics.

If Maven give you a 360 degree run (A-B-C-A-etc), just logout.
You do not have enough time, if you can pull it off either you had a very high movement speed character.

Also, failing to guess or misstep in a tile will speed up the degen circle is somewhat punishing.

At 1st you also need to position somewhere in the 1/2 radius where you can see all three tiles, but when you are fked up with moving lasers at last phase... and you position yourself to the farthest, memory game turns to russian roulette. (Just guess which tile can kill you)

Its stupid indeed, i hope they remove that awful mechanic.
I think im going to stop playing this game, maven fight annoys me too much, getting to her last phase, afterwards memorygame with the screen full of effects, cant even tell when she starts showing the tiles - really well designed....

This is why computer/robots will axe us one day. Like in terminator. They can remember unlimited spots while we struggle with 6. Listen to Elon Musk and Steven Hawkins - end is near for us.

Lol this thread is still alive :D

I just save the writs now till I've levelled and then go in and do all of them at once. You can brute force the memory game in last phase by dying to it (can't logout to skip anymore). I think if they just improved visual clarity in that phase it'd be much easier, its hard to see the tiles with those spinning lasers.
Feel stupid, because it is.

I did it a few times now and have to say....its fkn bs. The first mindgames are easy but the last phase with the laser and the void laying around, then dodge that shit and remember that stupid mindgame and run on the correct fields.....its just shit desgin lets be honest....i never met someone who likes it. I play poe to fight and kill, not for that bs, i'm done with maven. You die, go in again, mind game starts again over and over, fuck this encounter srsly

And i dont even wanna start about the trialmaster.....cause i never saw him since league start, rly i am done with the league, next
