Cold Chronomancer Megathread. All content cleared. Leveling guide added. Low-budget build added.
" Good job making it =) " Funny fact here, by current prices, the cost of my gear I closed all content earlier is cheaper than this jewel alone. This is also the reason I won't put all those fancy gifs to OP and won't update maxroll page with newer demo video. Never really liked those 300d build demos. But yeah, wasn't even thinking about getting it 2 weeks ago. This week I hit big with Alva gamble for Fragments, and actually corrupting it to 28%. Sold it for 215d, bought some stuff, then farmed the remaining 25d yesterday (citadels with >900% waystone drop chance to get 3 fragments and a few Simulacrums (1 flask drop)). Wrecked my head about the passive tree and gems, LC vs Comet in CoS, put everything together, did some Simu/Breachstones runs, a couple of maps, and that's it. Anyway, I'm burned out af. Won't open the game for the next 2 weeks at least, unless GGG drops decent stuff. Good luck ya'll. ~~~~~ Time Freeze showcase xD Last edited by monik390#5560 on Jan 31, 2025, 7:55:02 AM

" Great build, that is exactly what I was running before in terms of skill. However, don't you find it slow to map using Comet to break the walls versus frostbolt. Why use Comet versus Spark or Frostbolt? |
|
" I used Frostbolt in the campaign before until early mapping. It was nice but I really didn't like making a build around the skill. I was looking for a spell that was "impactful" and satisfying to use. I tried thinking of a build around Cold Snap because I thought this was what I wanted to use unfortunately nothing would work in endgame. Comet also produces the most triggered spells. Its actually not optimal that's why I don't see others using it. But, idk, out of the cold spells, this is the one I decided to stick with. I wanted to be a pure Cold sorc this league. Been using lightning spells back in D4 and the last POE 1 league. I even wanted to take Archmage out, but its going to be a dead build if I do that. |

" Fireflower IS a hit. I was getting wires crossed. its "take 100 fire damage , when you ignite an enemy". not a self ignite. this is actually then a VERY easy way to proc recoup, as well as an easily resisted one. ammy slot is of course sadly, very valuable. and that +fire skills is not super useful to us in a cold crit build. Check out where this guy put controlled metamorphosis as well. https://maxroll.gg/poe2/pob/ed44a0f2 https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile2builds/comments/1iebe1p/35mill_ignite_recoup_chronomancer_surprisingly/ |

Just lot in cool lvl15 map with cool goodies on the floor. Killed by those annoying syphon mana with haste rare monsters

" lol. yeah that jewel is crazy. I was looking at my tree, and considering if those 6 points for stormcharnged/all natural would be better in pathing to, and grabbing Over exposure, for 20% inc elemental, and 40% increased exposure effect. and thought, hey monik has those too. I wonder.. I guess you bypassed that question. (for the record, looking in pob, I don't think that 40% exposure effect is better. depends on overall +increased damage of course. and pob is missing so much functionality. but I don't think it is.) Poe2 has significantly more pathing then poe1's passive tree. so all those jewels that can skip pathing, are super powerful. Last edited by Casia#1093 on Jan 31, 2025, 9:59:32 AM

" Oh, forgot about that, sorry. The thing here is, I'm not really using exposure that much at all. There are just 5-6 pinnacle bosses that actually ok to press EoW on. And I already have overkill damage anyway, so those 6 points can do a better job somewhere else. So, after putting that jewel my thoughts were like that: well, I lost cast speed, so need to get that back. Oh, Erraticism here, yes. 5 points left. Potent Incantation is ~12% more damage, but do I need that damage? probably not. So went with Roil again (I played w/o it before I anointed Wild Storm). For me, that 46% aoe is really noticeable and I want to keep it if possible, even if there are better options available. Deep Trance, for example - 10% reduced mana cost for 3 points, plus 2 points for energy generation. Sounds good, more comets on bosses. But I still want that AoE more. Anyway, let's talk about Overexposure. So, 40% increased exposure effect for 6 points. Wouldn't it raise the exposure effect in my setup from 26% to 34%(or 36%)? If that's a yes, I don't see any reason to get it. Negative res has diminishing returns anyway and I already have an 89% lightning reduction for bosses (conductivity 63%). I'm more willing to spend some points on Shock Effect magnitude instead, or even get back Potent Incantation bc it adds more damage to the entire build all the time for fewer points, than 8% exposure for conditional use. The thing here is, I definitely can make use of Exposure if I just put it in clearing skill (Lightning Exposure in Spark in my case), but that would be the case if I run a non-crit build, so I could put it instead of Ambush. Whatever, even Shock Magnitude for 6 points sounds better than getting Overexposure. I raised my shock from 20% to 41% (56% w/ overcharge) for 7 points. Idk why are you so hard on it, honestly. |
|
well, exposure is a more multiplier. so, when balancing increased damage, etc we do need to look to see which is giving us more, another +40 adding into the +300-1000% we already have, or is that exposure effect giving us another 8% reduced resists more.
but yes, the math wasn't adding up. I'm not sure what the tipping point would be exactly, but I wasn't hitting it. overexposure/exposure effect was not worth it. and yes, shock is another more multiplier. so yeah, is a good/better alternative. Last edited by Casia#1093 on Jan 31, 2025, 11:11:07 AM

" I've been doing some Sek runs the last couple of days just for a change of pace. Only gotten the Test of Time Barya once or twice. Any idea if there's a way to boost drop rate on those? It's not really clear to me if % increased rarity means that we're more likely to find rare items or if the items we do find are more likely to be rare. The former would be better but I'm starting to feel like it's the latter. I made some changes to my passive tree, swapping out some crit chance wheels for spell AoE improvements. This has boosted the damage of my spells considerably (from 3.5k to a little over 5k) and the larger explosions feel better. My crit chance is now high 30s/low 40s, which I thought would break the build but so far I feel like I'm actually clearing faster and bosses are getting rained with comets. Maybe the increased damage makes up the difference in building energy. Which makes me wonder if I should be focusing on getting more crit chance from gear rather than investing passive points. Another random question -- I've noticed that sometimes breaking walls (even with no enemies) generates energy for CoC... and sometimes it does nothing. Is there any logic to how this works, like maybe it only functions every 20-30s or so? I've been leveraging this before I enter boss rooms just to ensure I start dropping comets right away, it's just a little annoying when it stops building up. " Sometimes you crit your walls, and it generates energy. Sometimes you don't crit walls, and it doesn't generate any energy. Basically, you must break the wall with a single critical hit to get everything right. In practice, walls will crit too. With more AoE walls will destroy themselves too on a chain reaction. That is why critical chance is important. With 60% crit chance of comet (20% quality), Frostbolt should have 48-49% crit chance. With Ambush support, it becomes 96-98% on recently spawned wall/1st contact on an enemy. Ofc scaling damage matters too. Last edited by monik390#5560 on Jan 31, 2025, 12:16:51 PM
