If you absolutely insist I explain why contagion excuse you use dont work - contagion 300 chaos dot is basically a 0 dot.
While damage effectiveness on frostbolt gem is comparable to actual DPS skills. Just it has a problem that its DPS is sorta 50% of a proper not forgotten DPS skill that is up to date. See how damage numbers on your contagion are not even close to 50% of a real DOT skill? That is why comparing contagion/essence drain interaction to frostbolt/ice nova interaction does not work. The interaction itself is not even similar. You just though to yourself "uhh, what other two skill combo I know?" and threw the first thing that came to mind at me as if it makes any sense as an argument why frostbolt must now be consider a support spell when it always was a dps spell before they pushed out the ass nova of frostbull. Frostbolt is absolutely not the same to ice nova what contagion is to essence drain, this is just a ridiculous thing to believe. It just has nothing going for it, no multi hit mechanics, no scaling vectors so it needs a giant buff to damage or rework. Practically no one would get confused that contagion is not meant as primary killer skill. But everything about frostbolt looks like its designed to dps, yet its dps capability is outdated and needs revision. Frostbolt is just a single example of many skills that simply look sad limping behind actual skills that are relevant. This should be obvious to anyone paying attention. I dont need to fixate on frostbolt. You wanna prove game iz izi - go self cast crack lance instead. I am sure you are not going to have a good time. Especially when lightning tendrils of escalation exists and does everything that cracklance does but better and with heaps less clunk. Frostbolt Ice/Nova is just a different DPS balance compared to ED/Contagion. They don't have to be 50/50 to be valid comparisons which would be clear to you if you acknowledged that GGG's design philosophy is not for all skills to be equal in DPS.
The other thing you completely ignore is how skills feel to play. If the playstyle is just jank, it outweighs potential upsides. How many Galvanic Arrow builds do you see? Funy you mention Crackling Lance tho. Disintegration version is a fine skill that sees use. The #1 problem with Crackling Lance is the intensity mechanic adding jank, which that transfigured version doesn't suffer from. Know your skills before you bring them up. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

You dont know the skills you are trying to teach me about. No one playing frost bolt and ice nova combo uses the frostbolt for damage. Its usually linked to more proj, unlinked, level 1 or whatever. Never is it even a 4 link. And even if you did 4 link it would still do jackshit compared to ice nova that you should focus on when playing that combo. In this interaction it doesnt matter if frostbolt didnt have any damage numbers at all. So your talk about damage ratios in interactions is besides the point and nonsense at the same time. No amount of mental gymnastics on your part will change or believably refute the fact that frostbolt is in fact designed be dual use, both for ice nova interation and for standalone DPS at which it fails. Then you produce something that can be condensed to "alt cracklance is sorta better so its fine that normal cracklance is shit" which is laughable and I am not sure who is this supposed to convince. It is you who constantly evade and deflect when we get into any meaningful specifics about the balance and design and you also regularily try to assert superiority when you in fact observably dont know what you are talking about.
