How does GGG plan to make money?
I have seen a couple people in game recommending more inventory space in exchange for real money. I think that is a fair idea since inventory space at the moment is not that bad.

" So? I agree wholeheartedly with henku, more inv space would be awesome! I would pay the 3-10 dollars it would take to increase it! The game needs an income and I would love to pay to make sure the game I love can keep the servers and their workers paid off so the game can continue to run! Heck, if they had a donations section I would give them 20 right now. I can imagine that this beta stress weekend cost a decent amount since they aren't getting any income from this game yet. And the Vanity items is gunna be nice. Being a witch having some nice evil looking stuff would be a nice change from looking like a 16 year old pretty girl witch =]. |

" how would it effect gameplay? if they left the game as it is but added an option to have 30% more inventory space for 3 bucks. The only difference I can for-see is maybe saving you 1 portal scroll every 4-5 you use which I personally had 30 on hand and i gained way more than i spent. Edit: All it would really do is let you have like 3% more uptime assuming you backed up everytime you got full inventory which would be a waste of time. " True story. And since it's a custom-tailored league, a larger inventory space shouldn't make the game easier, just more convenient for players who don't like tp'ing every couple minutes. Also, donations seem to be doing GG pretty well right now, and since they should keep coming in even after it's released, the micro-transfer store should help with generating revenue as well so if they do use this as a gateway game, the next game they create may be born with whatever spoon they can manage to craft, silver or gold (or diamond :P), funded by all the people who believe in their skills. |

Dont know why this is on the first page but they have made almost 300k so far, and since the game isnt even released yet, I say thats a great job by them. They will probably tripple this once more people start playing this game where your content actually saves and its very well known game. Also after alot of people are done with diablo, im sure they are going to come play this game next.
I say they will hit the 1mil mark in total earned money withen a year which will be the break even point, and then it will continue to tower over any money they spnend for patches or ticket support staffing. |

Many company out there turn to the Free To Play model. Of course the only viable way is to not provide unfair boost but cosmetic.
I used to play to Everquest 2 for 6 months and then quit (monthly fees, lag and so on). I played during at least two years with Guild of Wars because I support and like the model (buy a box then free to play). If you are pleased with game you buy an extension every 12 months. Hence cost is less than 5 bucks/month. Another exemple of winning Free To Play strategy is WOT (World Of Tank). You can play for free from the 5 tons tank to the 120 Tons steel monster. I already spent close to 300$ in one year through micro-transaction. Tanks are identical to free player you just got extra credits or XP to grind a bit faster. If someone told me I would have spend 300$ in less than a year on a single game I would have called him crazy. I can tell you, if game is good and attract enough people around the world, a small structure company can make profit out of Free To Play !! POE is in Beta phase. I paid already 25$ to support them and will probably give them more if game go to the right direction. Long life to POE ! :) | |
