Simple solution to the One Death mechanic that is clearly hated by most players
" Tell that to the literal hundreds of millions of gamers who have ever played a video game with a death penalty. What a laughable statement. Starting anew....with PoE 2

" This is a woefully bad argument. First of all, feedback forum. Do I really need to spell it out more than just that? Second of all, the more punitive the game is to mistakes, bad RNG, and people who can't see and process every single game frame like some sort of 0.1% freak of nature are going to burn out or play meta builds instead of being creative and playing what they want. The game will become stagnant and stale and boring and GGG will as a result make less money. There is zero reason for dying in maps to be as punitive as it is, especially for standard league. Many players play Standard so they don't have to deal with anything worse than exp loss in poE1 and quite frankly we expect the same in poe2. If PoE2's gameplay was more skill based than RNG gear based, there might be some room to argue in favor of such a vision, but the game is just a slower PoE1 with a dodge roll and weightier skills with zero real change to the sheer amount of bullshit that can happen faster than you can blink, let alone react. The only thing any deaths teach you outside of a first time experience with a boss is that you need better gear than what you have that the game barely trickles. It's a game about grinding gear that punishes you for trying. Playing some meta build that lets you wipe screens with mediocre gear becomes the only viable option. It already takes hundreds of hours to reliably self find top end gear for ONE character. When you lose drops AND the map AND its mechanics on top of experience loss, it is intensely demoralizing. This is made all the worse by the serious negative feedback loop too many deaths coupled with bad map sustain can lead to (which you don't even need to die at all to experience, I started having to do tier 4's and 5's when I had completed tier 10 and 11 quests thanks to how randomly bullshit the map drop rates can get). I'm just here to play, not sweat, otherwise I'd do hardcore. I genuinely don't understand GGG. They introduce SSF which is just a coat of paint you can wash off, ignore all the people who for OVER A DECADE have railed endlessly against the frustration and head ache of trade and just want reasonable drop rates in a true SSF, but decide then to introduce a Ruthless mode that drops a top end piece of gear once a century for their hardcore minority base. And as much as PoE2 still suffers from a lot of frustrating aspects to its gear and mod design and weighting balance, I actually feel like I find good drops every so often, I actually feel like I get the occasional upgrade instead of 100 yellow red maps giving me maybe a dozen chaos orbs and a middle finger. But then, they decide to still have that glorious middle finger just flashed with the other hand with this punitive death system. They make ascendencies even more of a slog and a chore and drowned in RNG. They once again fuck over Life and melee class balance and favor the fuck out of ES and ranged. I stopped playing PoE1 after burning something like 800 chaos orbs one ONE FUCKING PIECE OF GEAR one league and still couldn't get a single decent mod mix that wasn't riddled with level 20 mod tiers. They still call "More mobs, but faster now that can one shot at white rarity" balance despite having the bones for mechanically interesting encounters rivaling the best any MMO raid or Souls-like has to offer. They keep taking steps forward and leaps back. Their precious vision is at a crossroads trying to balance out increasingly mutually exclusive paths towards such. They've put so much more emphasis on player skill, yet exponentially fucked things up with worse kinds of RNG that just promote more one-shot screen-nuking no-thought builds. The least they can fucking do is not go backwards with shit like map bricking. |

" I played an MMO with durability that meant the item broke forever (and not everything can be repaired), happened to me once with a pricey weapon that also had a pricey engraving to it to give it a name (RP purposes, but still costly) and just POOF gone. Same MMO also had death piles and numerous items that also broke on death. Trust me, I've played the punitive shit, I've even enjoyed the punitive shit, but having been playing games since 8 total colors and single button joysticks were the best you had to work with I'm at the point where I just want to play for fun. Even Dark Souls only takes your exp/currency, which really isn't that hard to recover in the end if you fail the corpse run, especially after levels become negligibly useful after a hundred or so outside of an nth new game+. PoE2 right now, it'd be like if you had to do the whole of Blighttown over on every death with Quelaag, or for any other reason, and run back from Firelink Shrine through Lost Izalith while losing a max Estus charge every death. Game would have a 3% completion rate. |

" Then why do you think PoE2 is a game for you ? |

" My friend, you spend so much time on forums trying to build this illusion you made in your head. Maybe go touch some grass? Every post i go to you comment in it constantly. |

" “Literal hundreds of millions” give me a break! There are barely ANY games out there right now that have death penalties at all let alone severely punishing ones. PoE 2 takes that concept to the extreme and it adds absolutely nothing to the game except frustration. Its sole purpose is to artificially slow down progress and prolong the grind all in an effort to hide the lack of any meaningful endgame content. The only “laughable” thing here is how many people can’t see that either because they’re wearing blinders and being willfully ignorant or just disingenuous. |

TL:DR
Acts are magnificent, 12/10 experience, feels way different than PoE 1. Endgame is a clone of PoE 1 with added dodge roll and upgraded graphic. You don't play META build in trade league, you progress slower than others that play META build. Last edited by bewilder2#0356 on Jan 25, 2025, 2:00:28 AM
